I'd like to share my dream of TWHL I had the other night.

We were all playing something that looked like Portal2 coop but for more players, in a poorly designed test chamber built by Archie. There were some invisible/nulled faces and I could noclip out of the world. I also managed to reach a high sniping point. On querying Archie about it, his reply was that it was an intentional feature.

The game was different in that by firing your portal gun at other players, you forced them to respawn, and also in that by pressing spacebar you could turn invisible.

Also I think I won't be visiting Boston this time. Maybe on my next trip, which will probably be never.

I was recording a couple of lines last night and while I was at it I decided to do another reel. Rather than mimicking existing characters like my last reel I decided to make things up on the spot.

I'd love to hear your thoughts :D

Journal time!

Ok, so, I haven't written much lately, but lots of stuff happened in the past month and this one too.

I will first start off that since 3rd of July i am officially 20 years old!

Yay for me, time sure flies, I'm gonna die in 40 years ;_; WHERE HAS LIFE GONE TO! and similar whining :D

Second most important is that i am also, since July 3rd, a student of Information Technology! (Computers and hardware).
4th best on the entire student list, and 3rb best by the number of exam points in the entire faculty of all directions it offers.

So from now on, after a year of doing god knows what useless things, i am finally getting back to school :)
This course is 3 + 2 years (if im good enough, and i have no doubt i wont be), than after that if i score over 300ESPB points i can go for 3 more years to become Doctor of IT.
But that latter, first this :D

The other important news is that i now have some new computer hardware, yeah!
First of all is my new PC housing! Chieftec UNI 02B, hell yeah:

http://www.nix.ru/autocatalog/cases_chieftec/83116_2254_draft.jpg

I payed only 18 euros for it! Amazing deal i must say.

Second in the line of hardware improvement is new RAM memory. GEIL Ultra 1600MHz DDR3 2x2GB 7 7 7 24 latency

http://itsvet.com/proizvod/geil-4gb-(2x2gb)-1600mhz-ddr3-ultra-plus-gup34gb1600c7bdc/comp_comp_ram/81/1415

Costs 80 euros! Extreme game memory, i payed it, yep you guessed right, 18 euros as well!

The last, but definitely not least, is my new GPU, the amazing Gainward GTX295!

http://img.benchmark.rs/tests/vga/gainward/GTX285_GTX295/Gainward_GTX295_03.JPG

Only i removed the dumb sticker. I payed 75 euros for it, really cheap if you ask me. This GPU is a monster, DX10 though, but it does shit right.

Over all I'm happy with my purchases and what happened these days, its been nice. Im also completing my new old pc for old hardware, gonna play some dos games :)

Also, I've noticed I've got a flaw i need to fix/overcome. I seem to imagine something amazing and than have no need what so ever to make it and realize it (Mapping/Projects). Gonna have to work on that.
Also I've started a big project in source that i can not complete, again I'm shooting for the stars again >_<

I so need to learn on how to make models and textures...

Hello thar from Australia!

I've only got about two weeks left in the country.
I haven't been checking TWHL really as I've only had sporadic internet access, but that is about to change...
For the worse. We had a little mobile broadband thing which ran out yesterday and my parents have decided not to top it up. :(
No more internet for me, so I can't talk to people at home.
Right now I'm on an internet kiosk in Canelands Shopping Centre in Mackay, typing on a rather crappy keyboard.

I met one of my two best childhood friends yesterday. His name is Joe Balma, which is kind of funny. He's changed a bit since then, mainly that he's now about 6 feet 4 inches now. I was kind of nervous before meeting him, as I hadn't really made any contact with him in about a decade, but it wasn't really an awkward meeting. We were talking for about 5-6 hours.

I had resigned myself to not meeting my other best friend, as he moved down near Brisbane shortly after I moved to Ireland, but it turns out we'll be spending the last week of the holiday in Brisbane, so hopefully I should be able to meet him.
We'll mainly be going there because my mother's best friend also moved down there. Most of my family were good friends with most of theres. Some of the family had come up to meet us in Proserpine, but we'll be going down to meet the rest of the family.

Anyway, I have to go soon, as the internet time at this kiosk is running out. I probably won't be able to go on the internet until I get to Brisbane at least, so I'm just explaining my absence really.
Bye bye.

Hey, do you know any software/site that helps in solving problems or learning math? I'm talking about something like wolframalpha. The problem is that it doesn't solve always correctly, or doesn't always display the solution.

I'm bad at integrals :(.

As you may or may not have noticed I sort of announced in a previous journal, I will be visiting the city of New York very soon. I will also spend a few days in Florida before that.

My father has been telling me we'll see New York since before I was born. Twenty four years later, he honours his promise.

Needless to say, I am looking forward to this. As with every visit to a new country, I am sure there will be a whole lot of new experiences, sights, smells, and tastes. Unlike with other countries, however, I sort of know what to expect this time. I have had Hollywood shove all these ideas down my throat for over two decades, so naturally I can already imagine what some might be like. Everything I've seen in movies, all of it and more, will be there in a way or another, waiting for me to taste it*. "American Cars", "American Breakfast", "American Everything". It feels surreal... I can already imagine it, almost artificial. I figure that is a side effect of it being a world I have only seen in movies. There is so much to see, especially for an architecture student and photographer. My mouth waters at the thought of it. The landmarks, the cityscape, the subway, every bit of city life. And of course, the B&H store. Goodbye, savings! I may also meet Tetsu0 one day.

There is one thing I am not looking forward to, however, and that is my body cavities being invaded at the immigrations desk. DO NOT WANT. I can only hope it doesn't happen.

All in all, it looks very promising. Despite certain... inconveniences (such as the above, or the lack of a certain bathroom installation of French origin) I am sure it will be an amazing experience and I will definitely post photos when I return.

As a side note, I'd really like a Raspberry Pi for the trip. Portable and inexpensive, good to check mail and download photos to my portable hard drive. Sadly they are on mega back order. I'll probably end up going for a cheap netbook instead.

*not literally - licking parking meters is not in my plans

Sorry for journalling 2 days on the trot but I just wanted to say that my unemployment has come to a sudden end...

I'm working again as of Thursday this week.

I genuinely hate the fact that my brain can process emotional thoughts. I'd rather be heartless cold asshole than an emotional twat to be honest. Fuck feelings.

Don't you just hate it when you're driving down the highway and then your wheel decides it doesn't want to be part of the car anymore?

Fine leave wheel, we'll be better off without you!

Help with The Core?

On ModDB we have our fair share of Watchers (425 at the time of writing) and with every media release we tend to briefly make it into the top 50 ranked mods (out of 17,000).

Now don't get me wrong - this is fucking awesome and it's a real incentive to keep working on it even though we're using a dilapidated, fiddly engine.

However, I often see (frankly not particularly good) Source mods with more than double those figures and while my ego is not quite swelled enough to just assume that The Core deserves more, it can be a little disheartening when a 3-month-developed Source mappack of questionable quality is getting more press than a 3-year-developed full-length mod that myself and Andy have invested huge parts of ourselves into.

It's a lot more difficult to get people interested in Goldsource these days, especially when the majority of Goldsource gamers are only playing CS 1.6 and don't even know what a singleplayer mod is. So this is where I need your help - I was looking for action plans to potentially spread awareness for The Core and build up an audience in anticipation of its release in a few months.

There are hundreds of possible ways to go about this, and I'd like to hear your theories on what you think I should do (or if you think I should stfu and appreciate what we already have).

Some things I've been considering:
  • Absolutely guaranteed weekly media updates. They won't be as high quality as the stuff we've been putting out (purely due to volume of work) and would be more like little sneak peaks at progress like the cliffs I posted in the WIP thread recently. Quality vs Frequency of updates.
  • Objectives such as 600 watchers and we release all the RMFs upon release. 700 watchers and we release our textures under creative commons for anyone to use and modify, including high res originals etc etc.
  • Regular dev videos - maybe fortnightly. Hints and tricks and sneak peaks at the maps.
Whatcha think?
