You all remember Y'ato's Past, right? Well, same rules, different Story.
For those of you who dont remember - One member writes a chapter, then states who will write the next one. If the next person doesn't reply within 2 days, a new person is selected. Remember to PM the person you choose

note - Please state your chapter number, but giving the chapter a title is optional.
Chapter 1 - Alarm

Captain Thompson sat alone at one of the metal, rusted tables of the platoon mess hall, a mug of disgustingly diluted coffee cooled in his left hand. The Aralonian war had ended only four hours earlier. Before, the fighting had been intense and Thompson was the only one of his regiment still alive. Sure, he was glad that the war was over, but more-so he was angry that it had begun in the first place. There hadn't been a war since 2008, and then out of nowhere, Aralone declared war on the New Republic - the largest world power - consisting of the UK, the Americas and Europe, now combined into one super-country.
They had expected the fighting to be easy, but it turned out the Aralonians had off-world help. Tanks beyond current Earth standard technologies had pillaged everything in their path until EMP grenades were made standard to every Regiment. Then it was just same-old trench warfare.
There were still a few terrorist groups left, determined on breaking the un-sturdy peace, and there were rumours that they were still in contact with the off-world civilization, but the world leaders just shrugged off the idea.
Thompson wasn't so sure... He had been part of the combat... He had seen the look in the enemie's eyes, and they didn't look angry or scared like most soldiers did in war... They looked blank as if they didn't know what was happenning.
Mind Control was dominating Thompson's train of thouhts when all of a sudden, the company alarm started screeching.
A shadow grew over Thompson's table. He looked up to see his colonal, a look of grim determination on his face.
"Captain, a group of activists have seized control of one of our chemical labs out in Zone 24. You'll be leading the team to take it back. Get going. Now."

*

Thompson approached the HI-37 Night Interceptor Helicopter. Only 4 hours since the war had ended - since he had come back from the front line - he was being whisked away to complete another miniature war of its own. He spat and boarded the chopper.

hmmm. All i can suggest is upgrade your graphics card's drivers.

I had a problem similair, with my old video card, where the flashlight only lit up models, and the textures would occasionally go black...
This was due to my video cards general crapness, and I'm sure your's is good enough to handle HL2, but perhaps the drivers are out of date...

also, maestr02, you are THE BEST 'noob' ever. You explain your errors so clearly, you dont get impatient, you read tutorials... <sighs with happiness>
Stick at it, and you will soon be a very highly regarded TWHL forumite and mapper.

hang on. Madcow might have been on to something.

"In digits i died"

lower case "i"

digits replacing roman numerals? 1 replaced I

I994?

perhaps the date in roman numerals? (MCMXCVIV)

i'll keep trying.

Oh, also from the site that Unbreakable found,

hmm. Sounds like you have a faulty b-281/2 component... Its pretty easy to fix, though, luckily. The instruction can be found on google, but i'll be really nice and find them for you.

You entered a question on a web form which is intended for user support questions.
A first-line technical support person called "Irene" (who, most likely, is not trained as a computer person; since 90% of all calls can be fixed by going with the customer through their connection and email settings, you can train anyone to be a first-line technical support person in one day, with most of the time spent in "How do I handle the phone" and "How do I handle the ticket tracking system") had a look at your request, saw that you had problems with sending email from remote systems, and copied a standard text about mail bounces in her reply to you. Remember that there are many people "out there" who think they know a lot about computers because they know how to start "regedit" and know a few buzzwords; the presence os such words in a support request is not necessarily a sign that there's some clue at the other end of the line.
You replied that no, this does not apply, and that yes, it's really a problem at your end, because lots of words Irene does not understand. She then decided you're totally out of her league, and redirected you to their second-line support; second-line supportlines do consist of people knowledgeable about computers, because at that point it's no longer a trivial problem. Since you happen to be an ISP, which is a company in her book, she referred you to the Business support line; such a Business support line usually consists of people even more knowledgeable about computers in general and the Internet specifically, because companies usually have rather specific needs that go a bit further than "I have an ADSL modem and a Windows box".
