Ah I see...That would be quite difficult for a set of shutters...Perhaps two lightbeams are needed.

Ouch it actually sounds quite difficult. I know about the Render FX part. I've set up the actual light which is supposed to come through an open window. The window is covered by two shutters. These shutters swing open and start to let light in until they are completly open. This was my idea anyway...

Sorry for all this posting btw...

Do you remember at the start of Half-Life in the transit, there was a machine holding a crate. The door opened and the light started to shine through. It looked like a func_illusionary to me. I was wondering if anyone knew how to achieve the effect, to have the light showing matching the amount of door opened (if that makes sense!).

That might've been it.

JB gave me another solution though. Make a copy of a set of tga's from Half-Life. Take your own TGA, save over it and rename. Voila!

Yup carve can really screw up things. It can used, but it really shouldn't. Buliding the object out of seperate brushes and using the VM and clip tools are a better solution.

Anyone seen this before? I checked Tommy's and it isn't there. I suspect I've done something stupid with my customed TGA files. If anyone can help, I can send the bmp's of the files I need in TGA if anyone could have a look for me. I really need this, please help!

in Sound problem Post #32183
Get a batch compiller for a start. Secondly, check whether than particular sound file is the correct format and specifications. Search the forums and you will find them. The path for ambient_generic should read
'ambience/nameofwav.wav' because it is relative to whatever you are mapping for. If it's for Half-Life, then your sounds should be placed in:

C:SIERRAHalf-Lifevalvesoundambience

Or where ever you have Half-Life installed.

I have a 'video clip' of a custom title for a mod I'm working on. I say 'video clip' because thats exactly what it says!

Properties>General>
Type of file: Video Clip
Opens With: Windows Media Player

Now my question is what program can I use to convert this file to an AVI file? The dimensions are correct, I just need to convert it. Thanks!

Yes Spirit has 3D model support in Hammer (I assume that's what you are implying). I would also suggest making your mod in Spirit as their are a lot of groovy effects. On the Spirit Of Half-Life site is a zip file which can be downloaded which is basically an empty mod folder. It explains how to setup a Spirit based mod. Mapping for Spirit can be a little difficult due to the lack of tutorials on the net. Give it a try and see.

in still No Lighting ! Post #31017
Get rid of some of those textures! The limit is 8. Also fix this error:
- Warning: Larger than expected texture (348972 bytes): 'THANKS'
What is a 'light_ev' exactly? Secondly what do you mean by "i place a light_ev and a light_spot in with a null so i know there in place and that."? Are you saying you made a small room which was textured with the null texture and put those two lights in? Try this instead:

To test that your lights do actually work, open a new map. Create a small room textured with a 'crete' texture (type it into filter when you select your texture), place a 'light' in the room and place an info_player_start in it as well. Do a full compile and see whether or not the lights work. If they do then your making a mistake somewhere in your map. Use the 'Check for problems' tool in Hammer. If all else fails, post your map in the vault.

Impatient :P

Yes this a major part of the compile. You just have to be very patient. Some (albiet poor maps) take days to do a full compile. I suggest you turn off VIS and RAD if you need to do a quick compile. Your map will have no lights, but will appear in 'fullbright' mode. This is useful for testing entity setups and the like.

I doubt whether this could be done, but is it possible to change the sky during the course of map (without using a changelevel)? Let's say for arguements sake your map has the 'space' sky and you want it to change to a morning sky? Is this possible? If not I'll just use a change level.

Warning: ::: Larger than expected texture (348972 bytes) Wad:wad[sierrahalf-lifecstrikede_azte
c.wad] Texture[311:THANKS]
This is a warning, and only a warning, that you are using a larger sized texture in your level than some older video cards can handle. It is not a compile error, but it may cause player clients to sieze up if they have an older video card, or are in Software Video Mode. You must decide if you are going to abandon those players, or use another texture. See also Checkered textures.
