Wormholes have been proven to exists. In fact, scientists have already created a wormhole. They tried to pass an ion through it, but the ion did not go through, just the properties of the ion...

I don't like it, but a rating system for members based on what the moderators think seems good to me.

People spam the ratings, and are not always "Honest" when they rate a map, although this star could be put elseware in your profile... Such as the page with your "other" maps.

Well, the existance of "WormHoles" have already been confirmed... and a wormhole seems more of a farfetched topic than a black hole. Because if this I firmly believe in their existance.

I solved the problem though! I gave the hero a crowbar AFTER he passed the clip brush area!

The reason is:

The player really is stuck in the wall... You need to place the info_landmark near the ceiling. The player is positioned under it. Make sure the Player has room to start their. The reason is... The player is put at the lowest point under the info_landmark that isn't in the floor, but if the info landmark isn't high enough, it causes one wierd error...

Hey Captain!

Long time...

This project's progress has been delayed a while, and now, Unbreakable is going to manage the project til all the mappers are through. Then, kol and I will take over and finish it up for release.

okay, I experimented a little...

This problem is caused by messy mapping. Instead of using VM to change the size of complex brushes, someone would click on it, and extend it by grabbing and pulling the brush away.

Next time you have complex brushes like that, make them bigger using VM.

BTW, cliff is looking good ;)

Ill still beat you though :o

Unbreakable, you got until kol comes back. When that day comes, I'll add my ending, we'll fix it up, and he'll compile this bad boy.

I would suggest getting everyone to finish their parts, and then when kol comes back we can fit it all together.

I think I see what you want.

Use

This: http://twhl.co.za/entityinfo.php?ent=aiscripted_sequence&game=1

or

This: http://twhl.co.za/entityinfo.php?ent=scripted_sequence&game=1

To make your grunts move from point A to point B. With this, you can also make the grunt's do some kind of animation. You can decide which one you want by using the model viewer, and scrolling through them.

Once again, I have almost no clue what you are talking about. I hope this helps.

This is commenly caused by a messed up brush at a wierd angle. I've seen it all the time...

The only way I think you can get rid of it is to make two seperate brushes to replace the spot where the error was.

Clipping is yet another obsolete tool.

If you can master Vertex Manipulation early, you will never have a need to use tools such as that.

You can pretty much do any brushwork you want with Vertex Manipulation.

As you are learning to map, start big, and work up from there.

Jurugi,

I understand that you are new to mapping, but let me explain something to you.

There are a few tools that hammer comes equiped with that should not be implemented. One of these is the carving tool. I cannot stress the importance of not using the carving tool enough. It is an obsolete tool that serves only the purpose of creating errors and invalid brushes.

There is a tutorial on this site about Vertex Manipulation, or VM for short. If you want to create a plausable map, check this tutorial out and learn how to use this wonderful tool.

Here is a link to the first of these two tutorials:

http://twhl.co.za/tutorial.php?id=18

I suggest that you scroll through all the beginer tutorials on this site before you try and create a map.

Click on the "Beginner" button on the bar on the left. It should pull out all the Beginner tutorials for you :D.

in Cutscenes.. Post #122036
I'm not sure if there is a tutorial,

but I believe that you can do this using simple entities, or try and be creative (Such as using a camera where the player is, and having a black wall slowly dissapear in front of it, then have the camera turned off and you are inside of the player view, then using a simple message for the text).

This site has a great entity guide for HL that was put together by Andy.

I suggest you check it out.

What brought me to come up with this idea was creating a thread in the HL1 mapping questions, only to figure it out minutes later. Instead of wasting the moderators time by asking the thread to be deleted, it would help if all I had to do was delete it myself.

in Changing a ladder's sound! Post #122030
Without changing the sound file, it would be pretty difficult :

Try makeing the ladder trigger another sound, but this one be louder than the origional sound, so that it kind of blocks it out. I know, its not a very good effect, but I'm not sure how to do it any other way.

(Thats what I did to get rid of the HEV suit talking thing)

in boat ? Post #121924
Could you be more specific about what you mean by boat?

Do you mean a smaller boat that you can steer, or just a large boat on water that floats?

If you want to make a boat, just do the same thing you would with a car, only, put it on the water. I would warn you though, the cars in CS are just itching with errors, and I would not recommend implementing them into your map at all.

well, I'm glad to see my points have already been taken into consideration ;)

I only wrote the color coding thing because when I thought about what good changes the site could have, I noticed the same sickly orange color I've been looking at for ages...

in Invisible Wall (Undesirable Effect) Post #121863
AG,
I tried a serious of clip brush setups. First of all, a clip brush can be shot through anyway... its the fact that when hit with a crowbar it makes a metal sound. None of the clip brush setups had any great effects, since you could easily turn and hit downward. It would just end up with me using up extra time.
In order to get rid of the HEV suit sound, I have turned up the volume and content of my music so it is in the backround, giving it a pretty cool effect.

I like the tutorial award :glad:
  • Allow someone to close or delete their own thread.
  • A rating system where you can only vote once (Only on Complete maps)
Those are two undrastic (not a word) measures, but I have a small suggestion that will probably get throw down right away:

Color code each page. The main page could stay orange, but for example, special pages like Map Vault could be blue instead of orange.

I understand that this take a long time, but it would help the quality of TWHL be more eye pretty, attracting new members and such.

Also, after looking at the HL1 questions, I see that a lot of the threads are just explaining how to do something.

Why not have another Forum called "Mapper Tips" pr something where anyone can post their tips! We cannot have a ton of tutorials on easy simple things, so a tips place would be great!
