Of course. Ignoring the sound and video cards would be a good option for now.

But, assuming the case will have the motherboard vertical, all you have to do is turn it on its side to make it easier to work on.

You may find it a bit troublesome to screw the motherboard to the case if you've got dangly components in the way.

in Zombie Survival Plan Post #259262
Heres my choices
User posted image
Primary: This sort of situation must not be approached with reason, logic, or startegy, but rather with mindless violence! So, I've decided to get the biggest, baddest gun straight from my ass to Rambo this zombies till the good old army arrives.

Secondary: If all else doesn't work, release the dog! Once he becomes infected, we can have a really emotional moment like Will Smith from I am Legend and his dog where I don't want my only friend to die, but then he turns and I have to kill him.

The ratings would be through the roof!

Vehicle: All the cars got stolen by everyone else, so I made this carriage from my shit, layered on some Fibre Glass and then paint. I have no Horses, but assuming the dog or sidekick is still alive, they can take the Horses place.

Armor: A zombie (temporary) apocalypse requires that I go out in style. And what better way then some pixelated armor. Not only will the zombies piss their pants in fear, but I'll look damn awesome for the ladies.

Battle Anthem: "Oh yeah" by Yello. What better music could there be when I stride out to face the hordes with my armor, gun, dog and sidekick?

Sidekick: The Terminator. Being a machine means he can't become infected, and being a futuristic machine, he can't be destroyed (easily) so wwhat better meatshield is there for me?

Stronghold: As long as Breen doesn't mind. If the real one isn't available, I'll just make my own or pretend some skyscraper in downtown is the citadel.

Location: The centre of the universe! If the zombies get me, I'll use my awesomeness to teleport here.

Last words: If the zombies somehow manage to kill me, it'll be because their hacking. Once I'm in spectator mode and waiting to respawn, I'll bitch and cry endlessly, call for an admin to ban said zombies only to get banned myself, then write some crap journal entry about it. Or maybe complain about it on some forums somewhere. Who knows?

DE END.

I don't trust Russia or China either, especially Russia...invading Georgia, saying they're going to pull out and not doing it, threatening the U.S. and Poland...the list goes on. I smell another cold war coming on...or maybe even a world war
The whole Russia-Georgia issue is a bit fuzzy for me to be honest. I'm more or less sided with Russia. Sure, they've followed the peace treaty somewhat poorly, but Georgia has done it's fair share of wrong-doings. They did start off the conflict and killed several Russian peacekeepers, and there is evidence that they attacked civilians on purpose, which is a war crime.

A new cold war? Doubt it. A new world war? Even less likely.

It may be possible that the country could break up. Maybe.

If you take a look at German history post-WWI, you'l find that it had problems similiar to the US. Rampant inflation, massive debt, job losses and discontent over the state of the war (though this has to be somewhat loosely translated in order to fit into America's mindset, as it hasn't really taken hits from their wars.)

When the Weimar republic came up, many people tried to start their own revoltions. Before Hitler, communists and a different nationalist group tried to take over the country on seperate occasions. It was volatile beyond belief. One region down in the south (can't remember what it was called) tried to break away completely.

Now, I'm not saying that America is in such an extreme situation as Germany was, but you can use Germany as a base for what we may see in America in the future as it fits in better then you might think. Just as Hitler united Germany again, Obama has brought together America (with different political beliefs, of course.) As Pepper said, history has a nasty way of repeating itself, even if not the same everytime.

But to be honest, personally, I do not see this happening. I don't see America splitting up into so many pieces, if at all. Although I do agree that Russia and China would be potential candidates to take over the throne.

As America has taken hit after hit from poor foreign relations decisions, wars and now a partial economy collapse, will it be able to stay in the the world spotlight? I don't see why it should be considered a necessity to social development all of sudden.
Whoa, where'd that come from? I don't remember seeing anywhere on that article that it was a necessity to social development, yet people have all of a sudden sprung up with this conception?

Personally speaking, a good social life revolves around not during just one or the other. Being constantly outdoors or indoors, in my opinion, is honestly not good. After all, there are just some days where you wanna hide indoors and forget about the outside, and what better way to do that then with some friends?

But those are just my two cents.

Mine handled Crysis fine.
Try playing a simple skirmish match with bots of 2v2, or even just a 3 player match in Supreme Commander. See how far you get before your CPU chokes on the demand.

And of course I am going to build it for gaming. Why else would anyone use a computer?
Porn? Who knows.

DDR3's are rather expensive at the moment, whilst DDR2 will become obsolete. Its probably best that you get DDR2 now, and switch it in about a years time when DDR3 is much cheaper.

Quad core is a must. Dual's won't last long against games 2-3 years from now. Shit, it won't even last very well against some games out today.

If you have the money left over, get something fancy from the nVidia 9 series.

Quad-cores are better then Duals, as they have double the cores of Duals (4). Assuming your rig will be for gaming, get a quad. If it isn't, best not to blow the money and settle for a dual. Many games are starting to put alot of demand on CPU's, and a quad would probably get you set for the future onslaught of new games.

DDR3 is superior over DDR2 (DDR3 is DDR 3rd generation). They are superior in all areas (energy consumption, speed etc etc...) So yeh. Your choice will depend on the needs of your computer.

nVidia I always find to be better. But thats my personal choice. I don't know a huge amount about the differences between ATI and nVidia.

Just my few words on it, my opinion.

Not to mention the killer demand on the CPU from the director. Anyway, got more commands!

sb_takecontrol - Allows you to take control of another survivor, as long as they are a bot. Useful for bailing out of annoying situations.

z_destroy_on_attack - The moment an infected attacks you, they die. Hilarious to watch.

You can also kick the bots in the campaign, by using kick Bill, kick Francis etc..

director_relax_min_interval
director_relax_max_interval

these two relate to how often the panic event will occur. Note that, depending onthe mob size, it can crash your computer if you put it too low (only so many models on the screen at one time).

Still, makes the panic forever thing even more crazy

Here's a few ones I've picked up in my experiments and online

nb_rush - Makes all the zombies spawned rush at you in constant madness, similiar to force panic event.
sv_infinite_ammo 1 - Infinite = no reloads! Be just like Rambo.
sb_give - Gives your team mate any item you specify.
z_health - sets the health of regular zombies. Specials are not affected.

Also, if you follow up hlife_hotdogs command with director_force_panic and then z_speed 1000, the zombies come at you ridiculously fast and continuously.

go_away_from_keyboard - gives control of your character to a bot and spectate, great for online games so you can secretly wreck havoc without anyone knowing who's doing it.

Also, I found this one of the facepunch studios forum. Its classic.

Bind k "explode; say HAHAH You guys are fucked now!; ent_fire !self setteam 3; z_spawn tank"

Someone must use this in an online game and see how everyone reacts.

z_throwforce 10000 - the default value is 2500. This determinds how hard you throw things. at 10000+ propane tanks, when thrown, blow up on contact. Make yourself into a kind of long-range tank of doom All you have to do is bind a key to "give propanetank" set it to 20-30k for epic awesomeness.

I'll update as I find more.

I lol'd. Looks like someone completely missed the point of what Blitzkrieg said.

Personally, Guitar Hero, and similiar games, are just a way for people to experience something that would otherwise pose risk, require serious amounts of time and skill to master, or take years to do.

I have quite a number of friends who play Guitar Hero. Though they are really good, they only play every now and then. None of them have grinded endlessly to get where they are, and I have never heard of a case where someone has (in Guitar Hero, that is).

Yeh I know AT. Tank you can but just don't bother with the witch. Shes too fast and too hard a hitter.

I played an expert campaign online, and I gotta tell ya, that witch does not forgive those who disturb her. One hit kills are terrifying things.

What annoys and awes me is that when she does kill, she runs off screaming, then rests down somewhere. Like this one time, we can hear the witch in the subway tunnel and we all pass by silently except for one fool who doesn't bother to turn off his flashlight or slow down. He gets sliced up and she runs off, so I go back to one of the respawn points and as it turns out the damn witch has stopped RIGHT BY IT. Needless to say, I didn't bother.

One thing that makes the game great to play in skirmish mode is the ability to make all dead soldiers turn into zombies, ally with all other players in the game, gather at one spot, then blow them up and watch the zombies rise and chase everyone down. Great times.

Much like the best way to avoid disease is to kill yourself.
Oh snap!

Anyway, although I don't have much to say on how to recover, I can tell you how to recover in future.

If you can, download a program that can do ghost imaging and use it on your hard drive. Its similiar to recovery, but it gets every last byte on your system, instead of just things like registry and crap. Much much better and way more easier then windows recovery tools. It also has the benefit of not having to go to another OS or a Mac, or having to reinstall loads of crap afterwards, so long as you update your image.

Lets say you took the image of a nice hard drive with a few stuff, and then the next day you get fucked over by some virus because you dicked off. Upload the image and everything is automatically returned to the state it was when you took the image.

Just make sure that when/if you decide to take an image of your drive in the future it has no viruses or whatnot, because when you upload the image again those nasties will still be in there.

50000 km/h is fast? Compared to what will be going round in the LHC, thats virtually nothing.

I'm quite interested in seeing what discoveries are made. What is mass? Do other dimensions indeed in exist? (And dem pesky combine :O) Theres a whole array of questions which the LHC's four sensors should hopefully answer. Not to mention the technologies that could come as a result of the LHC. If things go well, we could have plenty of answers (and probably more questions) for us.

Oh, and about the black holes. I pulled this off the BBC's Q&A page they did with one of the scientists at LHC
Q: Black holes and matter

If you are able to generate even small black holes, will they suck up matter? Do full-sized black holes draw in invisible matter also? You have an exciting project and I wish you a lot of luck in the operation of your new hardware. (Merlin)

A: It's just possible that we could create mini-black holes, although this would require at least that there are extra dimensions in our Universe, for which we have no evidence!

If, however, we did, then the little black holes would bear no relation at all to the black holes created when stars collapse. They would evaporate away very quickly via a process called Hawking radiation (unless we have no understanding at all of quantum theory).

Even if they don't, they would be so very tiny that matter would never get close enough to them to be sucked in! Big black holes do suck matter in, and should also emit Hawking radiation, although they emit it much more slowly and so live for a very long time (much more than the current age of the Universe). (BC)

My most memorable and proudest moment was where I kicked my friends ass in Rome: Total war. I was playing the Greek Cities faction and he was playing the Carthage faction and we were having a seige match (with me being beseiged). I made a few retarded moves and didn't notice the ladders he sneaked in, and next thing I knew my ranged units were getting raped and alot of my hoplites destroyed. But when he entered those streets to face of my Spartan Phalanxs, he was a goner.

My most shameful gaming moment was also in the same match, where in my overconfidence, I charged a retreating unit with my spartans only to get charged down by Elephants when they entered a square. Boy, did I feel stupid.

Despite my heavy losses, I still won thanks to my awesome general unit, which I also chose to be Spartans :P
