Right now petrol is like 11 SEK per litre here;

Google sure is nifty.

The economical capitals of the world are definitely moving east. But neither of the developing countries in Asia would hold their own without exporting massive amounts to Europe. What I think we'll see in the future is further globalisation, eg. equalisation (is that a word?) between developing countries and first world countries. We'll get poorer, they'll get richer.

As far as super powers go, India and China are probably going to work hard to aspire for the position of top Asian nation, alongside Japan. They're both space racing the way America and the Soviets did in the 60's, and the competition'll likely escalate.

Really? Their only real problem is the noise being made over Tibet.

India's currently at conflict with Pakistan, another incredibly powerful nation. China has some troubles both with the Tibet situation as well as the Burmese dictatorship.

Here's a question for you: how do you enable the console on european keyboards? Neither "enable developer console" or -console in the launch options seems to do anything.

I've played it only with friends over skype, and yes, it is fun... for a while. I'm afraid this game'll get boring quite fast, not too sure I'll invest in it.

Drupal and Joomla are two of the most common community CMSes. Haven't used neither, so I can't comment on their quality, but they should be quite powerful.

I do know that Winamp is superb compared to the others i've tried (WMP, Itunes, MPClassic)

Foobar2000 > all for music.
For video, MPC isn't bad but I prefer VLC.

After using Chrome for a few days, I must say I'm hooked. For my daily web browsing, I've completely switched to Chrome. The fast loading times, the non-existent RAM usage, the sexy GUI... Enough for me.

There's still a bunch of plugins from Firefox that I miss sorely, but for the daily dose of checking mail and reading RSS chrome does the job superbly.

I'm pretty much interested in whether I will have to do testing in yet another browser now. Probably not, since the rendering engine is Webkit, shared by many browsers. As an initiative, not really sure what to think about it. Does the market really need another browser? We've already got 3 major players competing (being Mozilla, Microsoft and Apple (sorry opera users, your market share is like 0.1%)) for the user base. We'll see.

As for a real alternative to Firefox, it really isn't and probably won't be, at least for me. There's a tonne of plugins I use constantly for Firefox that will at least not be available for Chrome for a while.

Tito, your post illustrates a point against absolute browser conformity, but it is not an argument against site validity. Sure, there will never be a browser that conforms fully and only to the standards, because of old methods still being used. Of course the developers will want backwards compatibility.
This, however, is not an argument against using standards for web development. I mean, in all earnest, there's no reason not to follow standards - after all, they're put in place to create the optimal experience for as large an audience as possible.

Regarding the (apparently parallel) discussion about an ideal world, the term "ideal" is highly subjective and will probably differ greatly from person to person. As such, it is fairly unattainable.
Besides, animals are tasty.

Everything would be much easier if everyone followed web standards. That goes for both browsers and web developers. It would indeed cut development times for new websites as well as new browsers. The web would likely be a bigger place where creating content was easier.

. You seem to have completely missed my point about the W3 accessibility recommendations (3.), which in my opinion is the most solid reason for using semantic, well-formed markup.

What's remarkable with TWHL is that unlike the majority of all community sites, it's not a template. The forums are all hand-coded, first by atom, then recoded by our favourite Penguinboy with able assistance from Strideh and Ant - and they've done a god job doing it. Nigh-compliant (yes, there's still some invalidity

) HTML, clean and easy-on-the-eyes design and solid PHP work. Even some AJAX detail work as icing on the cake.

Seriously, how often have you seen a non-template forum system? Snarkpit, and the NS site linked earlier, both have pre-built forum systems.

Not very impressive. Pretty unreadable and foremost generic theme. The TWHL3 theme is nice, in my opinion and a ton better than TWHL2 and previous. At least the TWHL3 theme isn't an ugly generic forum template.

IE version 8 is schedule to come out soon

A very vague "soon". The IE8 release is still probably aeons away. And even when it's released, it will be aeons still until people have moved over to IE8. The majority of web users are still using IE6.

Still, it's nice that MS is choosing to actually follow web standards for once - "Standards mode", as it has been named, will be the default setting for IE8.

Regarding XHTML, using it unless you intend to send it as its proper form (eg. application/xhtml+xml) is pointless and will make the browser parse it as HTML. Of course, IE can't even parse application/xhtml+xml at all. Conclusion: don't use XHTML (yet). Kind of off-topic, I just felt the need to inform.

On web-standards and validity I agree completely with PB. Tito has a point about exaggerated validity-obsession, but in web design, standards often help make the site more compatible - in all browsers but IE. The common process is to develop a site using strict web standards and then fix it for IE.
Most importantly of all is accessibility - the web standards recommend and somewhat enforce the site to be accessible by disabled users (using screen readers etc.), something all web developers should strive for.
