you want to MANUALLY compile a map? You can't just write compiled map code, it'd be like writing a program in machinecode. I can't see why anyone would want to, unless you want to - somehow - generate your own lexical/syntactical analysers!

God no, everyone's first map is usually a poor attempt at doing that, and you eventually realise that a map of your house is really boring for everyone except yourself

JesteR , I've sompiled your map successfuly, and it APPEARS to be running fine. What exactily is this "hole from nowhere" problem? (I must be missing something, here: )

Also, don't CUT your complex object out. Just select it and click View->Hide Selected Objects. Your thingy will be put in a VisGroup and then hidden. Now when you compile just check the box "Run with visible objects only" When you want your thingy back, unhide it (View->Show Hidden Objects), and recompile.

P.S. What's a VisGroup? Click Help->Help Topics->User's Guide->Grouping and VisGrouping

Yes, you shall use "Cordon Bounds" go to VHE Help- User's guide- Toolbars- Map Operations and go down to "Toggle Cordon State, Edit Cordon Bounds" and read about it.
And when you save it use a new name for it, so you don't write over your old bsp.file with the whole map.

Hi foor,

Not quite a solution but my recomendation first up would be to use Zoners HLT for compiling and use a separate compiler, not Hammer to compile your maps

Zoners tools can be found here:
http://collective.valve-erc.com/index.php?go=mhlt

I use the compiler that can be found at this link
http://www.planethalflife.com/eddi/

It can be a little flaky (have to open and save the .rad file each time I start it up) but after that it's fine.

Failing that, could you post the log from Hammer/compile tool and that should help people figure out exactly what's broken.

when i try to run a map i've built i get - The command failed, the system cannot find the path specified, I click yes to continue and get failed "map name" not found on server

I think something is wrong on the Configure Valve Hammer Editor-Build Programs

csg is C:Program FilesValve Hammer Editortoolsqcsg
bsp is "" toolsqbsp2
vis is "" toolsvis
rad is "" toolsqrad

is this wrong?? Any Ideas of what else could be wrong if this is not. As far as i know i have the latest versions of Hammer and Half-Life

Is it allright to cut a VERY complex object out of the map for compiling-speed purposes (you know, adding new stuff without wait for 2 hours for the map to compile) and to paste it it the final compiling archive?.
Regards.
