Two new enemies? Where? The eyes are part of a Combine soldier, and the thing behind is...can't remember what it is now, but it's in HL2. While you're travelling in the pod thing, look down on the walkways and you'll see 'em.

Lousy screenshot in my opinion. :P

HL2 does not use Hammer 3.4. If you look at your "Play Games" menu, you'll see an item called "Source SDK". Open that and it will download and install all the tools you'll need to map for Source, including the new Hammer.

in finding the cs:s wad Post #104407
CS:S does not make use of WAD files. Textures for Source mapping are now called Materials because they also contain information relating to bump-mapping and other effects.
All the Source materials are stored in GCF files, which act a little like Zip files. They are located in your "SteamApps" folder. You will a program like "GCFScape" to extract them.
Hammer cannot (for some retarded reason) read off two seperate GCF's for materials. By this I mean if you're mapping for HL2, you do NOT have access to the CS:S materials and vice-versa. You'd need to extract the CS:S materials to the hl2/materials directory. Make sure you include all the extra materials you used however (use BspZIP to do that, it's a SDK tool).

It's inelegant: there's no FTP access, I doubt it could support PHP, or SQL or anything like that. There are better free hosts out there.

Nope, you won't have the prob if you use textured lights, but you can't have effects like flickering and the like. You can get them to switch on and off, I think. There's an example map in the vault on how to acheive that effect.

J3r3my, are you sure it's completely black and not just really dark? Open up a photo manipulation program and adjust the brightness: does a picture appear, or is it black? I notice that when I take screenshots from HL2, I have to brighten them before I release them as they come out a lot darker than the game.

Even if the player can't see it, the engine will: therefore, it'll render it. Unless the brush itself faces the void, the engine will render it. Anything that the player cannot and will not see should be textured with null.

Yeah, go for it. Remaking old, crappy maps is fun, because you can laugh at yourself and say "Ha, what a shitty mapper I was!". ;D

I would've remade my first map (which is here on TWHL), but I can't because the DL no longer works and I don't have the RMF anymore.

This is HL1 correct? You aren't mapping for HL2 are you?
Try check for problems (Alt-P) in Hammer and see if there are any bugs. Post the compile log in here.

I find that the pointfile is the best way to locate leaks. Better yet, building your map properly also helps. ;)
I can't even remember the last time I had an actual leak (i.e. not caused by an entity sitting in the void). Just be careful when you map.
