Reviving my own old topic here ;)

Map released, its a final version for now, might be an update or two in the future but its in completed because its fully working.

Have a test, post comments here or in the MV.

Thanks to all who commented here before too.

Sorry about not updating this in a while ;)
: Yeh...forgot about that until after I'd posted the second, but oh well...
Layout's been okay so far...heaps of places for camping but those are generally off a 'corridor' type area, so the campers themselves can also be taken by surprise.
Still no download...going to finalize it before downloading, tweaks to do still but I shall try remember to post it up here when its done :)

Okay I've been working on this map for a while now...
Its basically a historical sight surrounded by modernised housing.
As time has progressed the area has become much more modern, hence the swimming pool etc...
I've had some testing already with the main complaint being how easy B is to get to (for the people who've said so, it's been fixed now :) )
I'm not releasing a public beta... there's no reason to, when picked out people will probably do a better job :P. So for now enjoy the screens:

Oehz and since its what everyone who is being serious about this thread is thinking: The people who aren't taking it seriously are probably who trapt is reffering to.

Hmm I think if you make a set guide it could limit the amount of creativity...maybe it could be a more vague topic like a genre thing so you could be like, choose out of the following genre's - list here
And then we'd have to make something based around that genre...or maybe there could be more restrictions e.g. whatever you make, you must include the gman and at least four headcrabs...
The thing about trapt's compo is that we could decide what would be on the layout... whereas in this it could be restricted a bit too much if you go witha story...such as : The room was small,damp and three headcrabs lay scrambled in the right corner. - :o

Indeed, well done to everyone.

Mine could've turned out better I suppose... I was actually a bit rushed at the end due to other priorities....so yeh at least you can fit in the doorways :p.
Considering I spent half my time going through hl2 props and THEN dled some more for mine I felt a bit cheated by kasperg's 8ball, that rabidmonkey kept flattening me with. :P I think all around the outdoor areas worked better for this layout...due to its already cramped spaces...I admit my indoor area turned out pretty cramped :<.
I seem to be the only one who actually liked cpl's doors. I think although they blocked the flow they created a sense of suspense...it was like being in a horror movie...with screeching doors, I never knew which direction anyone was coming from :p.
I agree with ant about the rpg rule. Anyway...a good compo with well deserved places :). Looking forward to the next source compo, I have to say that I had a heap of fun with this one, some of you might even remember a few gmod pics :).
So yeh...read the top line again.

My map might not turn out as good as it could have been since I had to cut down on textures to make it a better size...might also be a pain to set up but at least it'll be entered :D. Originality ftw lolol.

About your - "Mapper Tips" idea Seventh. tbh newbies post in the help forums and there people explain to get ZHLT etc...
What I think would be more interesting is if each member could have their own little "map tips" sort of like the journal, this way the newbie to twhl can get direct tips from the person he looks up to. Just an idea, have no idea how it would work but maybe these could be advanced tips or long answers to a particular forum thread. Also if that thread was deleted due to spam or w/e then the newbie can ask the replier to post in his "map tips". :aghast:

Ideed.
We did have as much time as you and I started from the first minute thinking of ideas etc... In this compo I believe half of your time should've been filled with thinking of ideas, rather than mapping. I wrote down to myself 10 things that were going to be unique in my map, and tho I had to point them out to a few people afterwards, those 10 were in the map and people seemed to see them as unique. So, majority rules :lol:

heh from the pics so far etc these are my own thoughts.
1) No new textures
2) No new props
3) For the money
4) Will probly be on steaminess
5) Will need the net to play for the first six years (until hl3 comes out)
6) 1,2 and 3 cause its an expansion....
7) Will feature Cs:s:aftermath with one new map (so people buy it)
8) hl2dm stuff:no didn't enjoy the maps much...played dm_petrol instead.
9) de_inferno should be ok...though there are billions made already...
10) Will most likely feature hammer 4.000001 (so that we buy it)

K god is dead because there have been no Major miracles for quiet a while. (from the jewish religion) have you seen any lakes or oceans part so you could walk accross recently? Jesus hasn't walked across any water recently. Look at the news...the world is chaos not peace, because god is dead :/. The proof is WW1 and 2 because he didn't stop them from happening and millions died. So god died after religion came about. :P

K i'll toss my side into the er current of this thread. I believe in god but don't have a strict religion. (personally i think your wasting time sweating in a church on a sunday,thats imo tho) Anyway. I've thought and talked about this specific topic many times, the most likely answer that i can think of that could prove that religions are true would be that god is dead. Yeh if he's up there now he can kick my ass(Go ahead you old bugga :P)...but he isn't kicking anyones ass as far as i can see. The most outrageous example/proof of my point is WW1 and 2. So...yeh. this is all in my own opinion and no offense to anyones religion intended discuss as you so please. For the moment i'm just gona play computer games to my hearts content all sunday.
