I don't see why you can't do that, if your making sure to vertex manip. correctly...

The best solution I see it a cylinder on top of another. Rotate by 12.5 degrees, then go to each vertex and snap them to the nearest grid. After making sure that they line up, should be no problem to then move the very bottom verticies by the same amount outwards. Consistance is key.

Also, I hate the spike tool, always gets nasty to do much else than use it the way it is.

If I have the time, I'll make an example map to show you exactly what I mean.

There is something called a bumpmap (or normal map) that allows a texture to fake 3d. This means you no longer need to do all that work to give the illusion of depth. I suggest looking up some tutorials on making materials. You are bound to find one covering normal maps or bump maps.

Indeed. Cubemaps have an influence on lighting. Perhapes the lighting went up in your map because your card was finally able to draw reflective surfaces correctly. Buildcubemaps will fix that issue.

Yeah...

So hard to map something good these days, you need to be able to do almost all the positions in a regular mod.

It's very good to know how to:
Create textures
Make sounds/music
Model
And sometimes, code.

Old mappers that just deal with the map editor are quickly becomming antiques at this point, IMO.

It's not really on E3, we are calling it the E3 media update because it happens at the same time as E3.

As for the thread problem, the company that makes phpfusion, the thing our site is based on, is making an update to hopefully fix it.

The trailer was supposed to be a surprise on the last day, but someone let the beans out before hand :P Sorry about that.

Sometime today we should have our maps up. Thanks for staying tuned :)

[EDIT] Day 3's content is now up, go check it out!

The hammer has a max viewable distance in the 3d view. This means that anything so many units away is clipped and covered with black. You can change how far away this happens in the options.

Christians are people too ya know :P Everyone feels the pain of not being with a loved one. I have a grandpa that died a couple years back. Sure it is hard sometimes, but I know I'll meet him again. I just miss him in the meantime.

With galileo, that was definity a perfersion of christianity. I firmly believe the bible says nothing about the earth being flat. I think it comes down to pride, the people of that time wanted to be the most important, that meant being in the center.

in Darwin was clearly wrong Post #175688
Then can someone explain to me why dying early is a bad thing for Christians?
One of the first things that happens to a person when they become a christian, is they want to tell everyone about it. It's a natural thing, but with chirstians, it becomes more. God wants us to spread the word, and let everyone we can know of his existance, through our actions and words. Dying early is the loss of the chance to tell one more person, in the hope he/she may come to a relationship with god.

I don't understand why you hate religion so much Seventh. It guides people, and makes a lot of persons decent creatures. Granted, some religions tell people to make war, and people do make mistakes, but I believe, especially in the case of christians, are very decent, and have rules that they apply to there life to help them serve and be kind to others.

And holding back society? You do relize that many great inventors and minds were christian right? Albert Einstein, thomas edison... Some of the same people that questioned the world and everything around them.
Do you relize that Darwin was also a christian? Yet he went against the church. I don't know his state with God, but religion did help him to question the popular beliefs of the day.

in Darwin was clearly wrong Post #175673
And you will not see me telling you to be a christian, nor will I force any beliefs on you :)

That only leads to defenciveness and misunderstanding. However, please do try to treat chirstianity with the same respect that hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and other religions deserve. It's fine that you don't agree with them, but is there a need to be making cruel jokes?

in Darwin was clearly wrong Post #175670
Narrow minded eh?

I think you guys are miss intreperting what it is to be a christian. It is simply a personal relationship with God. That's it. You don't have to be nice, don't have to go to church, don't have to pay anyone money...

Unfortunatly, there have been many that have capitialized on chistianity. For example, the middle ages, with the catholic church. What was done there was wrong. I think we can all agree on that.

Also, I don't believe God in a giant creature in the sky. In fact, I can't imagine him a creature at all. He's beyond normal space-time, and that gives him both mighty power, and responsibility.

Which is why Jesus came, to give man a second chance, a way around God's law. The punishment of sin is death. Death being defined as seperation from God. The only way that God cound give man a second chance, was by switching our death, with another's. Jesus chose to die on that cross as an exchange. His life, for ours.

You may choose to believe or not too. But at least be thankful you have a choice in the matter. I personally would like to see many of you in heaven someday.

I will not however, give a speech on hell, I know most of you don't care, and that's all you've probably heard on the subject of God. I'll just leave you with this, it's not a Do this or rot forever, it's instead an offer for another chance.

in Degenerate Triangle? Post #173207
I found degenerate triangles to do strange things in any of the maps I've created. Of course, this was for a non-source engine, but the basic principal applies. If it's with displacements it might be ok, but degenerate triangles or faces on world geometry is really bad. I'd still fix it, cuz either way, your wasting polys :)

in Degenerate Triangle? Post #172938
Dude, your map has HUGE problems. This is usually caused by tiny micro brushes (less than 1 unit big). Only way to get rid of them is to find them and delete them. I sorry to say, you may have to delete everything to get them all. QuArK has a built in micro brush finder. Hammer might be able to find them with check for problems (ALT-P).

Do not use carve for anything but square brushes, that's a major cause for this. If you don't get them all, things are going to work odd. Brushes may be black, some brushes may go on forever in a certain direction ect.

If you post this map in the problem maps area, I'd be glad to run it through a micro brush finder.
