i tried writing one on my own, but it gave me an error right away:

"vbsp.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point CommandLine_Tier0 could not be located in the dynamic link library tier0.dll."

i dont know how to fix this? any help?

i used batch files to compile maps for CS 1.5 and 1.6. i used to use worldcraft but now i use hammerto make maps for CS:S. i read the "compiling introduction" tut, but was still a little confused. it mentioned .map files, but hammer doesnt use those, does it? how would the file be written? thanks in advance

where do i go to update it?

oh, and i noticed that the problem only occurs whenever i navigate through my map in the 3D camera view...buts its more difficult for me not to use that, so a solution would still be appreciated. thanks

Im trying to pick-up mapping again, but whenever i open hammer, a couple minutes later it "encounters an error and needs to close." i dont know if this is just a problem with my computer or with hammer or what? can this possibly be fixed? thanks for any help. it would make it more enjoyable to map if i didnt have to re-open hammer every minute and save my work every 20 seconds....

i already have a gig of ram tho. but i guess it would be a huge difference, esp after upgrading from a 512. i just turned down my clipping distance really low, and its working a lot better.

but i dont really get why we have to get and use Hammer 4 thru steam? cuz the only way we can map for CS:S and HL2 is to first get Steam and log on and download it and everything. wouldnt it be easier to open the program directly thru a shortcut on the desktop like for Hammer 3.4...without having to get online?

when i try to map using the new version of hammer, its really REALLY slow and keeps telling my i need to turn down the number of Undo's. i turned it down from 50 to 5 and still no improvement. plus random brushed keep flashing like im selecting them when im not. is it my computer or what? please help me fix it, if its its even possible. thanks in advance for any advice!

thanks guys! i got it to open and save as a .vmf file, but all my brushes are white. im in the process of redoing them all with the new textures, but does that mean old .wad files and textures are obsolete now?

Seventh, i used batch files to compile my maps in 1.5 and i Googled some stuff about that IrfanView's stuff and found a lot of irrelevant links...do you have any related/relevant links for me? :D

there are many ways to do that. first i click Camera View and make it 3D Textured. then find the brush i want to resize by placing the mouse cursor in the Camera window and use W, A, S, D, and the arrow keys. then click the object and it turns red, go to any other window (top, front, side) and click and drag the white boxes at the corners and centers of each side to resize! look at the bottom of the Hammer window near the taskbar and you'll see what the objects dimensions are(example: 10w 13l 44h). there ya go! good luck...

i used to compile after i changed a lot...but then i got errors that took forever to fix cuz i wasnt sure what i did wrong. now when i compile with hammer, it takes forever. if you have a really long compile time, you should definitely look into batch compiling. its what i use now and it cut my compile time down from 25 hours to 2!! w00t! good luck...

i wanted to figure out how to have a player shoot a wall and then a door opens. i got it to work once, but then it just stopped and i dont know why : . i tied the wall to a button_target and had that target a func_door. it says the two entities have unused keyvalues. i dont know how to make it work again or get rid of those two problems. thanks for any help!

ive used them all before saribous, i just wasnt sure how to use them in combination with each other the way i wanted to. therefore, reading those "damn tuts" did absolutely nothing to help. i guessed and checked and figured some more out. please check out my updated power_switch map in Problem Maps...

hmmm, i tried everything on a sample map and it works right the first round. but after that, the lights are still off, and the buttons still dont work. how do i fix that?

awesome, its working now. thanks for all your help Elon! :D i noticed that i had to add twice as many targets into the multi_manager as i had lights. like, if i have four lights, i have to enter 8 targets (4 trigger_relays, 4 trigger_changetargets) in the multi_manager. is there a better way? would it slow the map or anything down in any way? and lastly, is there a limit on how many objects a multi_manager can target?

hmm, i tried that but i must be doing something wrong still. i could only target one light in the trigger_relay. i tried the SmartEdit thing, but it would still only keep one target value. do you know what im doing wrong? and i appreciate your help!

i have a map with a house on it and several different lights and buttons and such. i was wondering if there was a way i could have a 'master circuit breaker' that would turn all the lights OFF. is there a way i could set a trigger state OFF rather than TOGGLE them all? any help is greatly appreciated. also let me know if i need to explain this better.

i wrote a batch file for faster compiling. it works great, but i wanted to know if i could save whats displayed to a txt file or something. like in hammer, you have the process window that shows you the time elapsed and everything, but you dont get that with the DOS window. is it possible to do a 'diary' command or something?

i got my sounds to work right, but it doesnt shoot anything! whenever it "shoots" it displays a message in the top left corner:
"Can't create entity: rpg_rocket
 NULL Ent in Create!"

i tried working with the trigger_relay like you suggested, and now the door works the right way. but the sound is still wrong. after the very first round, the sound is always on when its supposed to be off. and off when its supposed to be on.

thanks a lot for the help on the first part, but could someone please help me with this now?

i know there's a better way to compile maps than using Worldcraft, but i dont know what. i tried using TBCC, but it seems to be stuck. all it's displaying is:
"C:MappingTBCC_01Bbatch>ECHO OFF
Could not find C:MappingTBCC_01B*.log
C:MappingTBCC_01Bbatch>ECHO OFF"

i guess i didnt configure it right, maybe?? or is it working?

RESGEN
i have a custom sound file for my garage door and a custom wad file. how do i make a .RES file for them? could i write one in Notepad and save it as .RES? i tried using the RESGEN program, but it always gives me an error. what am i doing wrong?
