Um.. I don't know if it was only me who experienced Hammer shitting everywhere in windows 7, but as soon as I upgraded to windows 8, the programme is suddenly more stable. Sure, the zoom tool is still invisible but at least the grids aren't disappearing and hammer isn't randomly shutting down every half second.

in Which cheap GPU for 3D modelling/mapping Post #311028
If you want anything to do with modelling, you'll want some ram and a decent GPU. You probably won't need any more than 8 gigs of ram, but if you do, go ahead. I've conked out by spending £190 on a Radeon 7870 , something like that should be pretty good. But for your price range, I'd recommend a GTX 650. It's only £80 if you get it from scan.co.uk, and it's a pretty damn impressive card considering how cheap it is.

Cheers D.Ice,

The game is damn fast paced. Although the game mechanics are pretty simple, winning a game is hard. Taking control of bases as well as trying to damage the enemie's main base whilst protecting yours WHILST keeping an inflow of cash is frustrating. Managed to win one game by outsmarting the enemy and won another by bottlenecking them in their base until the time limit went out.

Only problem is that the currency to buy new units and mechs / pilots increases incredibly slow (roughly 100 "kudos" per match, 1,200 "kudos" needed for a small bot ), and some units are only unlockable using bought diamonds. Seems slightly pay to win.

Fuckin' usernames boys eh?
Aright, take a wee seat an fuck up an listen to me, ken?
aye. that's wit a thought.

So my first username, as many people probably saw and pissed themselves at, was "Mr. Good Map". I have literally no idea what possessed me to make this blatantly not true name. I was about 9 or 8 at the time I came up with this, and used variations such as M1G1M1 for Habbo Hotel and the likes. Got the piss ripped out of me here for making such shit and terribly worded journals, as well as being unable to string together a sentence that actually made sense.

Some time passed, I started playing counter strike and the like online, and for shits and giggles put my name as "Kenco Koffee". It was ok for the time being, until I went onto one of those AWP servers. Every time someone got killed, some silly message would appear like "XXX got pulverized" and "XXX got turned into jello". Smartarse little me thought "ooh hoo, how hilarious would it be if i changed my name into "Instant Mix" so it would look like I got turned into jello! LOL xD omfg" etc etc. And the name stuck. Like, really stuck. I haven't found anyone else who goes by Instant Mix, I've seen some Instants and some Mixs but none together. It's a pretty unique name and I'm quite proud of it.

well to be honest the only "quakeroaches" here are urby and myself.. the only reason I use the goldsource engine is because the source version of hammer has a serious case of manic depression and shuts down ALL THE FUCKING TIME. And also decides to save maps with every point-based entity deleted.

The importance of aligning textures. Image on the left only really uses 1 texture, but is aligned in such a way that the textures aid the brushwork, highlighting edges and the like. Image on the right is exactly the same, except the texture has just been applied. No manual aligning, just normal world aligning.
It's quite strange to think it was only a couple months ago that i'd learnt what the T B L R C buttons did, for all the time before hand i'd tried to make a brush that fitted in with the normal grid , moved it to the place I wanted texture and then applied it from there. Those 5 buttons are a LIFE SAVER.

Taco

I come from a land known as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Island, and in this "tacos" are rare as hell and you are pretty lucky if you can find anywhere that isn't a tapas bar that sells them. as I have never had one, I can only make a guesstimate that it's one big-ass dorito with a shittone of beef and other coronary heart disease-inducing consumables.

Buggering about with triggers and shit. Remember seeing a prefab literally years ago of some sort of cylinder you could walk into and would instantly heal you. Now i've made some sort of station that you walk up to, it locks you, heals you, makes your view go all weird and then lets you walk free. Only usable once, could probably make it work multiple times but gameplay wise it's probably a good feature.

Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream

If you thought your dick was the only thing that could have an orgasm, you'd be wrong. Clearly, you'd say, twats can as well. But you'd still be wrong. Because your tastebuds can. And this can only occur when eating Ben & Jerry's "Jesus christ is there cocaine in this" ice-cream. Cookie dough tastes like refined shit, but the Phish Phood and Chocolate Brownie flavours are literally the tears of jesus. Sure, they con you out by halfing the volume of the whole tub, but it's still worth it for those roughly 2 minutes you spend messaging your tastebud's balls before they jizz flavour all over your goddamn mouth.

I've been playing too much borderlands.

I think though we should do a competition based on something really obscure. We've had map from texture packs as well as map from layouts, but what about something like map a song? or a specific "base this map around a sound". Wether that sound is part of some complex puzzle, or the throb of an engine or something. I don't know.

Instant's texturing tutorial

Step 1. Make a shape in photoshop
Step 2. Add a tonne of filters to it
Step 3. Add a white layer with some small noise, make multiply
Step 4. Shove so many filters on it that it looks nothing like the original

Personally I believe that textures and brushwork go hand in hand so as the brushwork is not of my own doing or preferable art style, I'm finding it pretty much impossible to make textures for it, hence why I am not entering the competition.
