That's not really a foolproof way. I remember entering my HL CD key twice and I never got a response. I've also read something where one guy bought a copy of HL2 (I think) and tried to register with steam but it said that the key was already registered. So you might want to watch out for keygen users.

how is system restore a waste of hd space?
For me, anyway, three or four system restores takes up 2 GB on my HD.

I wish I could download some of the mods on PlanetPhillip but it keeps saying I'm forbidden, even when I have an account.

EDIT: Nevermind, they fixed it.

Back on Topic, I wonder if they'll ever resurrect Dark Truths. That mod looked interesting.

As far as I know, H3.5 is still in a beta, and until it's a full version, I recommend sticking with 3.4.

Huh, I never thought about compiling in full vis (I think Mappy 1 was compiled with fast/normal vis.) I'll try that next time and see what happens.

I personally feel that adding scenery to said location just wouldn't really look right; the entrance point is more like a airplane loading walkway than anything else. I might have to make a different entrance point, like a tram ride or something.

When you press F9, you get a box full of compiling options. Under the VIS section, select the "Full vis" option.

The other day I was editing one of my maps, and after I compiled it to test it, I noticed this: http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e155/LordBoxtop/misc/wtfskybox.png

I never noticed this before while making my map, and it didn't come up until I resized one of my rooms. I know this isn't supposed to happen. Maybe I'm compiling it with the Spirit of Half-Life setting or something. Anyway, can someone help me fix this?

And just to prove that I didn't encompass my map in a skybox or anything, here's the offending section in the editor: http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e155/LordBoxtop/misc/skybox.png

Thanks!

It's not Mappy, but the tut1.rmf included with the map, the one I made while following the ITB tutorials. Good times...hopefully I can make something better.

Word of advice: If you're going to be an independant developer, try to put some money away for buying your own domain. You'll seem more professional that way. At least that's the way I see it.

Well, all of these 'shock-flashes' are pretty old.
They're actually called Sabotages, or Screamers. Here's a Wikipedia article on them.

As much as I don't like these, it's funny to watch someone else's reaction to it.

Yeah, thanks. The second version isn't going to have as many gizmos as the first, but I'll see what I can do. I recently retextured the reception area and attempted to add some more architecture.

Some people say Imageshack is too slow and I should use Photobucket, but I frankly haven't had a problem with IS yet.

in Mappy 2 Post #152353
I'm kind of hesitant to post about this, considering this map "ix a nub map lol."

Anyway, slowly but surely, I've been working on the second version of Mappy (anyone who's played it knows that it = badness), my main concern being arcitecture. This is all I have right now (I get bored easily and put projects off for long periods of time), but I need some friendly advice on what you think. It's not up, but here's some screenshots:

http://img235.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mappy300010li.png
http://img211.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mappy300026te.png

The first screen is the beginning of the map, and I'm thinking of adding some chopper sounds to make it seem like you just got off one. In the second screen shot, I realize that the blue reception desk is fugly, but the texture I have now seemed to fit the theme. The sign in the back says "Purple Mesa Research Facility."

I'm also planning on adding a work area (with a lot of humor in the form of book titles and notes), and a cafeteria.

Feel free to delete this post.

Well, I personally thought, since the BBs were plastic instead of metal, they wouldn't have a higher velocity and they wouldn't go through the paper. Bah. I'm not very bright when it comes to science.

One more question: I was thinking of maybe buying an airsoft (more than likely a pistol) and possibly shoot targets with it, since I'll be comforted knowing that if I miss and hit someone, I won't kill them. Can the plastic bbs go through paper targets? I know it's a dumb question, but I just want to know.

I have two questions: Do you have to have a permit to own an airsoft gun? And what's the little orange tip on the gun for? Does it prevent the gun from firing?

@Crystalman: I think it's obvious airsoft guns hurt if you're not wearing the right protection.

Well thanks for the info, but I don't think I'll be buying an airsoft gun. My aim sucks so bad I can't hit a clay pigeon nailed to a tree 10 feet away from me.

This may be an idiotic question, but are there guns that shoot foam BBs or something to that nature?

Well, now that I think of it...foam or any equal material would be difficult, if not impossible, to fire out of a gun effectively.

For those of you who own airsoft guns/BB guns, or know a lot about them, if you shot someone in the leg with a BB, it would hurt them, right? Also, could you actually kill someone with a BB gun? Because I saw these cool-looking airsoft guns, and I'm afraid to even consider buying one because of the hazards they might cause.
