I like the "map from a WAD" idea. It would have to be the right size, and pretty diverse. Maybe someone could make a custom one specifically for a compo.

I'm aware the mods are deciding this one, but it's a good idea for the near future.

I also find map from layout (aka map from base) to be the most enjoyable.

Because I suck at layouts.

Those updates aren't really new, but they are cool.

And no, the release date is most certainly definitely not 2015.

Not going to apply for a bazillion reasons(screw responsibility), but instead suggest either Hunter or Rimrook (if he ponies up for CS:S) of the people who have posted so far for the job. Hunter already reviews games like a felon and Rim is one of the more technically skilled dudes on the site.

that's my two cents, anyways.

Yes! Normally when someone finds a formula that works and works I'd say more power to them, but I bet whatever they do will be great. They remind me of a younger Valve.

For Strider, and anyone else wondering about Frictional Games' (amnesia devs) unsure financial status earlier in the thread: http://frictionalgames.blogspot.com/2011/01/four-months-after-amnesias-release.html

"we can happily announce that things are looking better than ever for us."

"we are in incredible good financial situation right now."

Great news! looks like we can expect more from Frictional.

Do propped brushes still split the faces of abutting brushes? Is there any specific reason it's better than func_detailing?
Posted 13 years ago2011-01-03 13:13:01 UTC
in Flowing water stream Post #288615
Perhaps you can keep the invisible func_water really thin, as in less than 40 or so units above the "floor" of the stream of water just so the player can't get 'under' it? I'm wondering if a smaller brush will help reduce whatever performance issues you're trying to avoid with the entity.

It's a shot in the dark but let me know if you try it whether or not it works, I'm curious myself now.

The mods are on enough and the posts infrequent enough that I don't think a report button would really be of much use. What is there to report? Mods can always be notified of spam via IRC if for some reason they don't see it.

And why wouldn't you like it?
Because you made me fight a strider in a space barely big enough for it to walk, and hid the rocket launchers. Because you made a button that made me die. Because you made me drive an airboat through an allyway and then get out. I honestly don't remember much more.

I still don't understand why you don't understand and cannot convince you, so I won't try.

Learn to take a GOD DAMNED COMPLIMENT. I was DEFENDING your mod, for no reason. I certainly won't make that mistake twice.

Borderlands

enjoying it so far. yet ANOTHER game though that I can tell it was designed with the consoles in mind, and it holds itself back. No anti aliasing to speak of AT ALL, gimped graphics options as a whole. No dedicated servers either. great otherwise.

At least it's not as bad as Mass Effect 2 with its four checkboxes and resolution bar. sucks only a few great games come out a year and most are gimped for the boxes.

I am having a bit of trouble understand the question or questions but a 3D skybox can contain without error:

-brushwork
-displacements
-brush-based entities
-point best entities(like an env_glow)
-static props (according to the wiki, dynamic props supposedly work as well)
-lights

as far as the box not displaying properly through the glass, have you tried any other glass textures? Do all of them produce the same error, or just some (or one)?

As much as the size of Kasperg's head astounds me, I really can't come up with an excuse not to play this. Sure, The Citizen had its bad (BAD) parts but it also had some pretty damn good fuckin mapping whether we like it or not.

maybe I'll be able to finish this one without getting stuck and frustrated.

my page is NOT dedicated to my apparent "hate"
But that's the thing, it IS hateful. For fucks sake, it's a full page long and if it's not about America, it's about some stupid fucking drama that ended a couple years ago. It emanates anger, resentment and hatred from every pore. The fact that you need to specify that you don't hate ALL Americans in there, (which if I recall was only added after I distributed the verbal ass-kicking of the century) instead of simply REMOVING THE OFFENDING BITS shows that you are not only going out of your way to be an asshole, but also that you fully recognize the fact that you are such through being defensive, passive aggressive and spiteful.
Im dont mean offence, in fact i would take this section about america out, but that would cause more of a fuss to the apparent "offended" ones)
WHAT!? WHY the FUCK would doing that offend me MORE??? Logic flaw much? Also, offended in quotes? Nice dramatic touch there Shakespeare.

Hatred disguised is nothing less, shit covered in flowers STILL FUCKING STINKS.

I recommend Spybot as well, I use it. Be careful to click the proper download link and not the advertisements that say download. There is also an ad which poses as Spybot returned in the google search. Click the proper link.

Just run it every once in a while, takes anywhere from 5-45 minutes based on your rig.

Ended up spending about $1000 on mine by the time it was done, and I run BC2 on high at 60fps and Source engine with all effects, vsinc 8x AA 16x filtering (the works) at ~250fps. The next step for me would be to get a second 5750 and crossfire it, but I'll need a Mobo and PSU and that'll be another 250-300 at the most.

So yeah, I think you did it maybe just a little bit wrong. Out of your list the Mobo and PSU strike me as needlessly expensive.

I don't know for sure, but it sounds like a long shot. I know Athlon II's support 64 bit OS's but idk about Athlons, Newegg doesn't sell a single PC with one inside it anymore. What are the specs of the CPU, how much ram is installed? Knowing that would help immensely.

IMO Brushwork 101 should be mandatory in every elementary school on the globe. Cut health class to make budget who needs that anyways :P
I make a big block around it and carve in the middle so I can texture it all at once.
