I'm having shit-tons of problems with my Zoner's Tools. I've been out of mapping for some time, and I'm just now getting back into it. I've had to redownload all my tools, and for some reason, even though I'm sure I have the same versions, things aren't working the same.
My door's don't block light when told to. I set it to "opaque" or "opaque + embedded" and they still DON'T block light.
I can't find a single Zoner's wad that has NULL in it.
If I make my own NULL and try to do a -wadinclude, it doesn't INCLUDE the wad. No matter what syntax I try.
For that matter, it also ALWAYS uses ALL wads in my list, regardless of whether or not I set the parameter for listing only wads with textures used in the map.
Does anybody know why this is or can give me an exact cut and paste/screnshot of the correct syntax?
In the very least, why the fuck don't my doors block light anymore?
i've noticed that the default command that you can select for CSG does the long filenames, which is good. the CSG command lines i add though, do the short filenames, which would explain why all my MODs do it (i had to make command lines for them manually). why is this?
well, you do know it's not the Source CODE right? that's what got me all worked up. then i saw it was another game my computer prolly couldn't run and would have more agonizing download times to play.
ok this is gay. i try compile my map and when the filename has more than 8 letters it chops off all but 6 and puts a ~1 there, like it's DOS or something.
now it will compile my map and try to run the full length name instead, and then it can't find thefullname.p0 cuz it's looking for theful~1.p0 and then it can't find thefullname.bsp on the server because it dumped it to theful~1.bsp.
HOW THE HELL DO I FIX THIS IT'S BEEN DOING IT FOREVER IN OTHER MODS!!
and i would much rather have a trophy anyways, rather than dumping all that hard work into a collective pot. then i could say, "look at this @#$%er right here. that's two weeks of half-life pwnage."
it'd be kinda bad if somebody who really sucked in compos pumped out a few counter-strike maps and was a more honored mapper than one who kicked the @#$ out of everyone in a compo.
how about we simply make a collective map rating number for everyone. we'll just make it so you can't double-vote or vote for yourself and change it to 10 stars. then all the maps ratings will be averaged and put in your profile. it would be so much easier and then new mappers that are really friggin good with one map can still out-do the idiot who posts a million fy and aim maps for counter-strike for 4 years straight.
guys, when you use your brains, don't use so much of them
no ppl listen. i didn't say, "where can i testplay maps?". i asked where i could upload them to a web server such as our Map Vault, but made specifically for CS
is there any place that i can easily upload maps for people to download just like here? i'm really a CS mapper and i don't like to keep putting CS maps into what is made to be for HL. it's really not fair.
??? pff. i know wut u mean brat. before i moved away, my dad and evil step-mom grounded me for two weeks for having a friend sitting out in the driveway with me waiting for them to come home. they don't let me have a key to my own house, either. and my step-mom was really evil. she defined the evil step-mom. she would search my room on a weekly basis purposely trying to find stuff just to get me in trouble. if i was ever grounded for less than a month, it was because they were being nice. and i was ALWAYS grounded. it was a big joke to the family next door. i'd come over waiting for the bus and say, "i broke the record. i stayed ungrounded for 3 days this time", and they'd ask, "what were you accused of doing this time?"
anyways, enough of my stupid, senseless babble.
PS: yes, and once i was grounded from my N64 for two years, until they lost it in the basement. when i found it, it didn't even work right anymore. i'm not making it up either.
nevermind. i screwed up. i feel kind of stupid now that i've found the huge hole in my map. but i am having troubles using tank rockets. is there trouble using them in CS?
umm... I can look at C++ and get a very bague idea of what is going on. I do just a little Qbasic, and some javascript, but unless it's gonna be DOS or web based, it's not gonna help
dammit. i forgot. u all are right. i was trying to say changing the source code, but yea...
ok, sorry. didn't mean to piss anyone off, i was trying to get a specific point across.
OK! we all agree... now what?
zappy, do you know where to get the FULL SDK? You'll need that because the compact one has whole libraries missing. I also assume you have a program of some kind to compile dlls?
anyways, CS DOES have SP. I've mapped for it before. The only problem is there is nothing like grunts to interact with. therefore, you basically end up with nothing but training missions.
And i think u missed the point. YOU CAN'T BASE IT OFF OF CS. PERIOD! you need the source-code and the people who made it won't give it out.
HOLY CRAP YOU MORONS! I just sat there and told you you CAN'T base it off of CS!!! and then i said it should be sp based and have deathmatch style mp. WHEN THE HELL HAS WARIO TEAMED UP WITH BOWSER TO PLANT A BOMB IN THE CASTLE?!?!?!
and here's poor little zappy over here, "i've been doing c++ for three years (which is exactly what you need)", and we're panicing about having no coders.
by the way, i feel important. when i play half-life, i just go out to quicksilver's extreme steam server. it means nothing to me. i just think it's a regular server. so anyways, i'm playing this map called "SubZero" and the credits pop up, "by DocRock". "holy cow! i know that guy!". so now after having a 20 minute conversation with quicksilver about the map he fixed up that we were playing, i come back on here and read the posts again. "holy cow! i know that guy too!"
jax, you can't make it CS. You just can't if u want to make a decent mod. You have to use Half-Life because of the source code. You can't just willy-nilly say, "ok, CS, be mario now", becuase it's allready compiled. when you make a map, you can't open a bsp and edit it like that, can you? and besides, CS isn't even in the last bit practical for what we are doing. we're making mario, and i think it should be an sp with grunts turned into monsters. oh, and here are some other things to think about:
-should be based on mario64, because we have those wads already, and it was the best 3d version of mario yet (sunshine was gay). -should be played in third person, like observer's in CS onthe chase camera -maybe armor should be turned into star-power, to use things like wing caps, and fire flowers, or maybe those should have their own ammo and armor should be like a count-down timer for invicibility with a power-star -limited weapons. i never saw mario with an m4 or ak. instead be able to select between flowers or wing caps, etc. and the crowbar will be his punches and kicks -we should at least give him a plunger or a wrench. he is a plumber for christ's sake! -mp should just be deathmatch (or teams) where you can play as different characters (even the enemies, like koopas). -we have to have a yoshi
dude, nintendo made "smart" games like starfox's adventure and that "great" stuff. mario is the only REAL good that smart and by nintendo. a plumber using flowers as fireballs, who would have thought?
how about we start with CS's AMX MOD type of game. Trust me, making a MOD of Half-Life or Spirit (especially spirit) is HARD. you need a very organized team and people who know c++ very well. I was going to take a c++ class next year, but since i moved to Hickville, PA, it's been pushed back a year in time.
I would like to make maps. Send me the wad (try using all sorts of textures in it too, like basement textures and a lot of the ones from the 64 game). I can help a LITTLE wth code but not much.

i suggested making a breakable map. i would love making a big breakable building that can explode and stuff. the trick is to make everything appear properly and have good r_speeds. that would be the true challenge.
