Probably will pick it up for the sale, but don't know anything about it, and can't remember why I wishlisted it. Thinking about getting into mapping again, maybe this would be fun to play with?

I've been out of the game for a long time, but maybe check out some of these tutorials and articles by Will2K over at GameBanana. Will2K puts a lot of time and effort into these guides, HIGHLY recommended reading

I never even knew you could do that with func_rotating, how cool.

Someone mentioned in the shoutbox recently, something about using a train/tracktrain to cheat to get the desired effect? (not sure how that would work exactly, but now it's intrigued..)

What compile log say? My guess you are woefully out of resources OR you have not func_detailed things that should be func_detail; all non-visblocking brushwork should be func_detail.

If the error is persistent, make that whole doorway func_illusionary and den use simple clip brushes to approximate the doorway. Also double check your compile log that there is nothing weird going on.

As a test, maybe try a different cliptype to see if it makes any difference. (not 100% sure, but think I always used
-cliptype simple
)

I'll check out your map when I get home from work if you haven't sorted it by then..

I remember a while back Archie or Urby talking about decals in GoldSrc, and I think the general consensus was just manually editing your texture was the best, fastest way to get the wall adornments you want in the game. (If you really still wanted to use the ugle HL decals, I suppose you could edit/copy/paste them over your textures as well)

In a limited way you can make signs and texts out of brushes--especially using Sledge's Text primitive--, though this won't look the greatest or be the most efficient from a resources perspective. If you opted to go this route, make sure you use Sledge or a HLFix-enabled Hammer, because it will allow you to make the brushes sub-1-unit thick, and/or nudge them at sub-one unit distances (Hammer compile by default snaps everything to the 1-unit grid)

Source SDK of course has overlays, which can be rotated/scaled every which way :)

Star Wars Battlefront
Even though I recognize it's not the greatest nor together game, I still find I'm getting my SW fanboy fix playing it. While I'm not really too jazzed about the whole DLC situation--I don't see myself ever paying for it on principle alone--, you can still play all the gamemodes with people that have, minus playing the new maps of course.

I'll continue to play as long as the PC player base stays strong, and they don't go overboard pushing exclusionary DLC and additional weapon behavior changes..

Oh I'm sorry, when you say "minimum light value" is that in map properties, or do you mean the light_environment?

If it's the former I don't think I ever messed with it.

I don't think there's any way to make a pointlight a negative value nor emit "blackness" (although that would be pretty cool!)

If you want the room COMPLETELY dark, you're just gonna have to block the path of exterior light penetrating inside using world brushes. If you want only the slightest light in the room, use a texlight with a darker color like blue/purlple, at a very low brightness value. (pointlights in GoldSrc are not very sublte)

Check your options/game-config-&-build-options paths. It's been a while, but I remember Sledge setup being much easier/faster than Hammer 3.x.

I've been totally waiting for something like this to get back into mapping. My vote would be GS SOHL, because I find EP2 tedious to map for with none of the improvements of CSGO SDK.

I think we noticed building de_subsanctum you can render a lot more stuff in Sledge, before getting in-editor lag vs. Hammer 3.x. If that's related to what you're talking about, you seem to be on the right track PB :)

Not possible afaik, because lighting is baked into the texture during RAD.

Maybe post a pic of the area and what you want to achieve, and we can think up some trickery, e.g., use sprites w/env_renders to crudley mimic a moving light, or possibly use a triggered func_door textured as volumetric light, to simulate movement.

I don't remember that particular part of HL(I really need to replay it), but you may find your answer with one of these meantime.

If desperate: I'm fairly sure the all the rmfs for original HL are available now, so you could see exactly how they did it. (could also decompile the original map)

There also might be a player console command that labels in-game what entities are what, and find your answer that way.

You could do it crudely with a trigger_camera that points to a rooms outside your normal map, textured black. Then you could use env_renders and/or func_door_toggles to make "items" in your inventory appear. (this might work for things like keycards and such)

If you need to be able to select items, use a trigger_teleport instead, temporarily sending the player to a place he can physicallly pickup/activate/use things in the inventory.

Not sure what is going on, but lately I seem to get a lot of invalid solid errors whilst clipping. First I thought it was due to RMF format bug and/or clipping off-grid stuff, but now it's happening on normal solids using VMFs?

Maybe when you close Texture Properties dialog, have the brush(es) of whose faces you had selected, selected :)

Clip-Outside-Edges-By-Default Suggestion
When clipping, maybe have Clip brush choose the outside edges of the polygon everytime, since 95% of the time that's what you're doing.

Until a better solution is found, I think your best bet is keeping the muffled sound low--maybe even one or two units lower than it is now--, so the splice is less noticeable walking room to room.

Since I haven't been able to make any headway using the ambient_generics constantly playing, will try triggers instead; I'm not quite sure how that will work yet, but we'll see :)

Tried a bunch of things Berto, but no luck yet.. =(

Sorry mah man been busy @work and in general, and my tasks are piling up.. All I did so far is re-texture and adjust the volume of the muffled clip, but again, I think the effect works ok as you have it :)

Sure it's been mentioned, but it would be really nice to add a button I can press under Map Problems, that automatically fills in each missing material individually, with anything non-translucent. (currently fills everything with trigger texture)

Well that is a very neat effect just the way you have it. Even with my volume turned up to max, I can barely here the muffled track; so, although the tracks go out of sync effect still works very well imo :)

I will mess around with it a bit, maybe boost the volume of the muffled track a bit so it's easier to playtest. BTW, great track choice for this type of thing & very well done!

You're right Stu. The method I listed above would work for triggered sounds, NOT looped ones. (not sure what I was thinking there..)

My GS knowledge is waning majorly from disuse; Everything is so much easier to do with the input/output system and Source entities in general... [/lazy]

Is there a way to make a sound to play constantly even if the client isn't in the sound's radius (and, of course, without setting it to "Play everywhere")?
Agrees with Jessie
One MM for each track to manually start/stop the song, and an additional one that loops them, --and they should play continuously. My knowledge of cue points in the track itself is rusty, so if your WAV files don't work as-is, try them with: no cues, one cue at the beginning, and one at beginning/end.

If you can't get it sorted, work up a quick example map, and we can have fun fixing it for you :)

And yeah no, I didn't expect the game to look photorealisitc like that--I think I like the toonier style much better, e.g., Clone Wars, Rebels--, but I've been waiting for this game for a LONG time and will definitely buy it :)
