Hmmm... this doesnt sound so good, if you have few players on the level one sniper in a tower will just kill everything, unless you have precise tactical co-ordination which you ARNT going to get from the average CSS player.

On the other hand, this could work quite well as perhaps a Co-op or large team based level. Trapping players inside structures (like in a window or in a tower) means they are going to get bored very fast.

Yeah, it was pretty sweet. If we do make a TWHL mod I think it should be set inside a virtual reality. Like;

"OH NO! Viruses have attacked the TWHL server (xen), and look, Borton Anti Virus has deployed soldiers to 'clean up'. We have to save the site from being formatted (nuked)."

That would be pretty sweet, fighting your way through the inside of a computer. I once had a whole mod planned out which was all based inside a computer, but you didnt find that out until the very end. It was awesome. :) "The Last Mod" it was called I belive, Alas all the maps I made for it were lost when I formatted, and I couldnt re do them all.

Heh, I remember working on a mod where you traveled through the internet and you could actually walk around in the TWHL website.

I was to be the lead mapper but alas the mod fell to peices. Had some good ideas for it too, like traveling down a tunnel (like a network connection) with all these little side passages going off it with different websites displayed. Like "Politics Online" Which was going to be flaming and so on :)

I agree with nickelplate and Professa Oak.

Apart from the gun thing, sure you can get cut fighting over a knife, even stabbed, but in the same respect you could easily get accidently shot in a struggle for a gun. Besides, with a gun you could sit anything up to and beyond a mile away and shoot somone, even a kid could do it. So selling guns in the mainstream is still a bad thing, in my view. But hey, if thats the way the US wants it, who am I to stop them. Its just my opinion that its bad, its not a fact (although that is easily arguable).
If you go to an all girl school all your life I'm pretty sure you're going to be gay.
That or the happiest and most sexually satified straight male on the planet. Infact I think a boy going to a girls school is more likely to be straight than gay, no men to bum in an all girls school.

On the note of gay people, human behavior patterns are pretty easy to predict and understand in this day and age with phychology at the level that it is. Gay people quite literally DO have somthing wrong with them, because they didnt get born with a penis to go sticking it in other men. You can always find somthing, even if you have to dig deep, that has caused somone or encouraged somone to be homosexual. Perhaps they are weak minded? Or perhaps they just have a rough or undesirable enviroment. I'm not saying its bad, but homosexuality is literally caused by somthing wrong with the person (history, enviroment, social state etc).

I wouldnt be surprised if in years to come Homosexuality was slowly wiped out or at least diminished because our understanding of it would be so much better. In this day and age though it flourishes because of our self indulgence fueled socially warped society.

In logic, there isnt always two options. If you break it right down, all the way down, there usually is only the two but not always. Thats in rare cases however, usually there is only 2; 1 or 0.

I think basically what a lot of this thread boils down to is that people are born every day, some are strong some are weak, but in this day and age a lot more weak people can survive where as before (many years ago) they would of been killed or died.

Lets bottom line it: Who gives a fuck? They can play 'smokey and the bandit' with each other all they want, so long as they dont try to force anyone else in to doing it, who's to say they cant.

What MOPX said, its messed up but a lot worse has happened and is happening. The drugs he is on probably fucked him up enough to do this sort of shit. Blame the game not the player. Yeah hes fucked up and yes the simplest answer is just to shoot him and leave him in a ditch for the worms, but OH NO! (:o D:) the very society that made this kind of nutter CANT get rid of him "oh lets try and treat him, maybe we can fix him!" - You cant, your not god, dont bother, just cap his sorry ass.

Although everyone should be given a second chance at life, people like this are severly disturbed. Better to end their confused pointless suffering and allow god to fix them (in heaven).

I really like the idea of theming each area like the chapters of half-life.

You need more in them though, not just prefabs that came with VHE, like for the first chapter you could have computers that you can blow up and shoot or the Anti-Mass Spectrometer machine bottom, where the crystal goes. This gives me an awesome idea for a map...

As for the genetic argument, there are plenty of genetic diseases that are prevalent despite the definite selective advantage against these condition. Why do we still have people with cystic fibrosis, when the gene is in one out of thirty Caucasian? Why do we still have diabetes, when the gene is perhaps one in five? In fact, why do we have ANY genetic disease at all, if natural selection is at work?
You sort of touched on the reason eariler with over protective parents. Weak people can survive these days because of all the hospitals and medical treatment and so on that exists. If a baby is born with severe disabilities it can be saved in a hospital and continue to live, and reproduce itself, thus the problem continues.

Oh and I am not a Nazi or a Gay hater, I was just saying that some people cant help hating gays, its just the way they are. As anyone who knows about the big bang theory knows that the universe is expanding, and they believe that at one point it will slow, then stop and come rushing back to its original point.
At which point, all matter implodes and then explodes again in another big bang. We may or may not be the first instance of the universe. What was there before this we can only guess!

At least, this is what i believe

it doesnt have a coherent plot, halflife's was so invisible you had to tack a lot of fan content on top to even discover what it was. If they use any more deus ex machinas i'm going to scream.

Infinity between two things? you say its wrong, but its correct.
because a vacume is there being 0pressure in X volume. and by the mathamatics there is a infinite amount of volume between 2 objects. an infinate amount between 3 objects, and it only becomes finite between 4.

infinte volume = infinite space = infinite small areas of space
No, as I said you can zoom in (theoretically) infinite times, but any area between two objects can not be an infinite space, you could cut it up into infinite sections, but that doesnt chage the fact that there is a limited ammount of space, therfore its not infinite.
I can't say that you are wrong, and you can't say that I am wrong. ^^
True. However which is more plausable;

1: The universe has always been, first there was a black hole which mass grew so great that its own energy caused itself to explode thus the big bang.

or

2: There was nothingness and then suddenly WHAM Shit loads of matter just popped out of nothing.

Seriously, think about it.
There really isn't a perfect nothing.
There is always something.
There is a perfect nothing, its called outer space, do you think the universe stretches on forever? It doesnt, funnily enough the universe DOES have an edge, outside that is an abyss or nothingness. although we can speculate that other universes exists beyond it, like a collection of marbles in a very big bag.

Perfect nothiness has to exist, there cant be somthing everywhere all of the time, otherwise the entire universe would be one very big very dence lump of matter. Space IS perfect nothiness because everything in it is being drawn towards planetiods. Like space dust, all the time it is slowly getting closer and closer towards the strongest gravitational pull, even if it is orbiting the object eventually it will either fly off into space (and hit another planet) or crash into the one its orbiting.

I really ought to record a video of a visit to TWHL sometime to show you how massively more efficent it is.
Thats now your homework assignment for TWHL ;)

I found fire fox to be;

-faster
-more asthetically pleasing and with a better layout
-safer
-more up to date
-more features which are useful

So I use Fire Fox on my PC, my dad still uses IE and I have no problem with that because its his computer, I have told him to upgrade many times but he keeps on setting it back.

Bottom line is, Fire Fox is actually better for web browsing, if you just want to surf or if you really get stuck in. If you dont want to use it, fine, but dont go saying its worse than IE because it isnt, quite the opposite.

Although, I do quite like Half-Life's stories, a LOT of deciding wether or not a story is 'good' and 'original' is in the exacution. If the exacution makes it seem beliveable, its a good story.

everything you learn about physics, geometry, maths in school is wrong and thats usually the first thing you learn when you start a uni course in one of those subjects. They dumb down a lot of it to still plausible but older theories so kids can actually get their heads around it.
Very true, one of the first things our A Level physics teacher told us was to forget 90% of the stuff that we learnt at GCSE level, although a lot of it is still true most of it is 'dumbed down' as you so tactfully put it.

Light for example, isnt a beam of light, its (the is the most up to date theory AFAIK) a single photon entity crossing between dimentions in a predictable course. Weird eh? Theres a lot more to it than that but thats a very rought outline of it, the actual fact of the matter is that we dont know how light works, we can only drum up a simple 'theory' that fits, even though we know for a fact that its wrong, its the best we have at the moment.

Still Seventh, the outside of a circle cannot have differnt speeds, unless you mean a sphere that is spinning on its x axis (lets assume) where the furthest points allong the x axis are movings slower than the ones on the y axis.

A circle MUST have a constant speed, otherwise it would be compressed, unless you are talking about micro micro variations in its dencity due to gravity and the other forces acting apon it, which I dont think you are.

If you can try to get the teacher to explain it to you in more detail and write up in a better explination.

Grrr... just lost a huge post, must remember to copy and paste the lot before hitting the "post" button.
and so it the point of terrorism. it's only power is to make the masses cower in stupid fear and pretty much make their goverments do stuff like this to make them feel safe, then complain and get all pissy about it when they think up a solution.

I agree, solutions like that arn't good solutions. solutions like invadeing afganistan arn't good.

ignoring terrorism is a better solution.
How more wrong could you be?

Ignoring terrorists is NOT the answer! Terrorists dont attack just to scare people, its so that their cause can be heard. Terrorists attack the USA (and indeed now the UK) because the US has been fucking their country for years. Take Iraq for example, a much stronger country invades, knocks off their countries leader and totally fucks their political system up, institues their own way of thinking / doing things (democrcy), steals their resources and bombs and kills their people on a daily basis.

Whats worse is that the general population of the offending coutries just sit back and let it happen. That is why terrorists attack, not to scare people, to let their cries for help be heard by the rest of the world. They are fighting back against the oppressors that are quite literally enslaving them. I know for a fact that if I were born in Iraq I would be one of the first people to pick up a rifle against the troops, the same can be said for any of us if the tables were turned and it was our country that was invaded. People dont strap C4 around them and blow themselfs up because some book says so, they do it because it is their duty. They are like soldiers, but of course they have no chance of fighting against us in an actual millitary form with armies and such, so they fight the only other way they can, with gorilla warfare tactics and what we would brand as "terrorism".

Ignoring them is just going to make the situation worse, we should listen to what they are fighting for, and then try and ammend the problems. In this case, get the fuck out of Iraq and let them come around to democracy if that is the way the country is going. If not then let them evolve on their own, invading to empose democracy on them, even if its what they will end up as eventually, is only going to make things worse and lessen the rate of progression. Forced evolution only leads to chaos.
Intolerance to milk protein is one thing, but intolerance for other people's sexual preference is another. Condemnation of a group of people based on their sexual preference is an attack on basic human decency.
Some people cant help it, some people are just wired in such a way that they hate gay people. I think its just the natural order of things, gays are usually homosexual because of shit that happened in their childhood, like their dad beating them or somthing. Its a warped cry for attention. In my view, people who hate gays are just obeying their natural insticts, a gay person is 'defective' for want of a better word. If we were all living in caves I belive gay people would be killed outright because they are a threat to the well being of the pack or the whole.

In horses, if a male or female become infertile or sterile, they would wonder off and just keep going until they died. Not because they were depressed or some shit, its for the greater good of the pack. If you have a gay person in the pack, they are effectivly sterile, because they wont reproduce, and thus are an unessisary drain on resources (food, water, heat, protection etc). People who hates gays are just conforming to the natural order of things. Gays go against the natural order and thus they are weeded out, like survival of the fittest. If you are weak you die, so that the stronger specimins can go on to reproduce and make the blood line and the species stronger.

I know its an exterme / nazi like view, call me nazi or whatever you want I am not a nazi or a person who hates gays, its just the natural order of things.

The public have to pay for them, I belive the last estimate was somthing around ?100 per card. And they can think again if they think I am going to pay to have a leech around my neck, I (and, of course, a very large portion of the general population) have dont nothing wrong. Its simply an infringement on my rights. Not the rights the law gives me or the rights that I have for living in the western world, MY rights, as a human being.

Whats next? Checkpoints? Papers to move from region to region like the USSR used to be? I think a lot of the problems today is that the people may disagree with a subject, but arnt willing to stand up in front of people and tell them how they feel. A good protest, riot or even revolution never hurt any country. They are the reality check that keep the powers that be from becoming untouchable.

On a lighter note, this thread is NOT full of flames, it has got a few flickers in it yes when people call each other idiots and such, but its not flaming. BELIVE ME when I say HIT is a lot LOT worse than this (or at least used to be). I remember loggin in one time to find and entire 5 page thread filled with posts like "You fucking goon, I am going to hunt you down and rape your family" etc. It gets worse, two of the people involed in said flaming were moderators, I kid you not. This is very peaceful compared to a lot of other places around the net, and there is not one single troll in TWHL. Somthing I thank the site for every time I log in, HIT on the other hand is infested with idiots, the main trouble is that most of the idiots are running the show. All the moderators here are fair and just, they dont play favorites and they dont abuse their powers. Thats what makes TWHL such a great community to be a part of.

So before you start condeming this thread as a flame war and asking for it to be closed, think about it. This could be a lot worse, take it from me. This infact is a very stable nice conversation.

CS players are idiots
Not true, I am a CS player. A lot of the population of CSS at the moment are very young, like kids who got HL2 for christmass or for their birthday when it came out because it was the latest top game.

If you find a decent server / clan you will see that a lot of CS players arnt idiots, they are competative but they still have fun.

I am one of the people who turned my brightness right up in the old CS versions so that I could see in the shadows (originally so that I could see in the militia tunnels when the lights were turned out and flashlights were disabled). Why did I do it? Becuase I care about winning that much? No, because other people do it and in turn you have to do it in order to compete.

Look at it like this; if your in a boxing match and the ref says you can put on a saftey helmet and your opponent does so, you would not be able to compete as effectivly if you didnt. Thus when you lost you would get annoyed and you wouldnt have as mutch fun. Counter-Strike is an amazing game with excellent gameplay, and thats why people compete on it so much. Because its fun to compete against other players to see who is the best and if you have a disadvantage (like having your brightness down) then it isnt as fun for you because you feel like you have been cheated.

I myself play CSS on the low graphics setting (not on low resolution though, that is a bit extreme) not because it improves my reactions (which it does, and is a handy bonus) but because I dont play games for the flashy graphics, and usually in CS you are concentrating so much on killing the other guy that you dont even notice all the graphics anyway. When I am rushing around in the levels jumping around corners and trying to get a flash bang away as fast as possible, I dont really notice or care about the HDR lighting that makes it that little bit "more realistic". Personally I think HDR lighting sucks, why the fuck do I want an iris effect in a game? Its ment to be a game, not real life. Also, as I said, its not the graphics that make the game, its the game itself.

Your wrong about the first part MadCow, nothing is nothing. Its not somthing, if it were it would not be called nothing it could be called somthing.

The universe wasn't born out of nothing, there was somthing there to begin with, you cant get somthing out of nothing. Nothiness is just that. A vacume is nothing, there is nothing there, nothing at all.
Apparently a point at the top edge of a rotating circle is travelling at double the speed of the bottom. Odd, eh?
Are you sure you dont mean the top of a rotating circle is not going as fast as the middle of it? Because by definition your statement is incorrect, a perfect circle spinning (not moving) will have a constant speed across its edge (on the outside of it).

Also MadCow, you should explain in the bit about planets accelerating away from each other, that they are accelerating NOW because the universe is still very young (they are still being propelled by the big bang, eventually everything WILL fall into one spot, one large black hole, and then the big bang will occour again.

Infinity, although imposbile to grasp by definition, can be comprehended. You look out into a dark spot in the night sky, and if you are lucky (if there isnt somthing else in the way, so far away that light hasnt reached us from it yet) then you are looking into infinity. An infinite sea of nothingness.
you have infinity inside your body, in between your cells etc.
Not true, you can zoom in infinity times (theoretically, I belive there will be a limit) but that does not make the space inbetween your cells infinite. There is a measurable ammount of space between any two objects, and if it can be measured its not infinite.

Freedom must be absolute. No exceptions.
'Let the phedophiles, rapists and murderers go free! Order is no way to run anything, everyone should be allowed to do absolutly whatever they want!'

Although I can see the point you are making, freedom should NEVER be absolute, and thats a fact of life, not a belife. Everything needs restrictions, if nothing is restricted then things are going to go the way of the Dodo very quickly no matter what it is.

Xyos212: I can see you have a lot of faith in your country and that is not a bad thing, you have to look past this and try and recognise the points others are making and the reasons they are saying the things they are. Not everyone is jelous of the USA, I love my country, but I accept that our countries leader is an absolute fucking idiot who is joining in with the US in bullying other countries to profit our one is totally wrong.

Whats more, you talk of illigal immigrants, look at my city. The leading taxi company is called Taxi Fast, the guy who owns taxi fast has an agents in the Checz republic and in Poland and so on, he can train foreigners to drive dirt cheap, fly them over here, give them accomidation to rent, from him, charge them to hire a car and then set them to work in his taxi firm, from which he also charges them for the office rent.

This is putting a LOT of people out of work and turning a lot of the countries population into racists, why give somone in your own country a job when you can bring in a foreigner and make four times as much money. A lot of people are getting very angry about this because its not just happening in this one taxi firm. Factorys, markets, even chains of shops and call centers are brining in labour from abroad to make money. The USA certainly isnt the only country with problems.

However, in a lot of countries the USA IS the main problem. Do you know what most of the middle east did when they heard about 9/11? They ran into the streets and they danced because they hate the USA with a passion for all the death and distruction it has caused them. I think that in itself speaks leauges about a country, when multiple cultures rejoice in its misfortune.

Bunny hopping was a problem when CSS first came out, I know this bug.

You get it to work by jumping down onto a downward slope and then keep jumping, its a bug to do with the player based physics of jumping from a large height and bouncing off a surface.

All those camp spots are real and the video is not faked. I give it... 1 week before every noob out there is bunny hopping on every map.

[quote]Rowleybob: I'm using current population numbers from the CIA, on all countries. The results should be fairly precise. A country's population doesn't increase much in 6 years.

Isolated incidents of torture, not the norm.
Your right, its not the norm, its only in America. And its not just a few guys who got tortured, ALL OF THEM DID. What do you think Guantanimo bay is? A holdiay camp where they sit around a fire roasting marsh mellows and singing Cum-bi-ah all night? Open your eyes.

We can go hunting in the UK, you get a licence, get a quick show of how your gun works etc etc, then you can go hunting. Hundreds of farmers own shotguns and rifles in our country, because they use them to kill vermin.

However, letting civillians in dencly packed urban areas buy guns as they please for no given reason is dangerous. You say you need a gun for self defence? Defence against what? Another person with a gun? Dont you think he wouldnt have a gun if the laws were more strict.

Now, I am not telling you how to live, if the majority of your country wants to own guns then thats fine, who am I to tell you what to do. But you have to see the point that people are making here, guns are built to kill, you start selling guns in the mainstream and what do you think will happen? Everyone will live in peace because they know every person on their street is armed? The worst thing about having a gun is being tempted to use it.
If your not a fucking terrorist, you have nothing to fear from the Patriot Act.
Not true. Lots of completly peaceful people were taken by the US to Guantanimo Bay (spelling), imprisoned and tortured for three years. THREE YEARS OF TORTURE, Juse because they had a certain faith. It seems to me America is breeding a culture of paranoia, where you think everyone is out to get you, that isnt so. Everyone might dislike you, even hat you, but that doesnt mean they are going to strap C4 around their chests and run at you screaming praise to some god.

Terrorists are a very small minority, true terrorist that is. The US government would have you belive that every person in Iraq holding a gun is a terrorist. But now, lets look at this from another point of view. If my country were invaded by a foreign force, and they started blowing up buildings and shooting people, YES I would take up arms. Not because I belived in a religion and not because of who the people were or where they came from. Simply because I would be defending my homeland.

A lot of America soldiers say they would die for their country, and that is the exact same thing that the people of Iraq think. They are just defending their homes and there land and we brand them as terrorists. Certainly, when those few flew the planes into the twin towers, that wasnt defence. But that was a small few, a very small minority. The US has to realise that you cant just use brute force to solve all its problems.

If you were to continue the train of though that terrorists are everywhere, why not just nuke the planet? Hmm? Cant be too sure, nuke everything so that the US is the only country left standing. Its the only way to be sure we got them all, seeing as there are only a few hundred proper terrorists in the world, who do shit like 9/11. Sure, we wasted six billion other inncocent people, but hey, it was a worthy sacrafice?

It seems funny doesnt it? That last paragraph, but now convey that over to Iraq, the country is, nay, has broken out into civil war. Thats a whole country you have wrecked to satisfy your own countrys lust for Oil and revenge. HENCE, the US is a big bully. Now I am trying to look at this from another angle, and see it a different way, but frankly I cant. If you can, please tell me so that I may take it also into consideration.

I did have a long long ranting post typed out, but when I pressed post it said "you need to be logged in to do that" which was annoying but still.

Anyway, heres a paraphrasing of the original post;
Sigh seventh... wouldnt the Oil producing countries hold power? Dont forget america always tries to help everyone.
Tell that to the thousands possibly millions of people who have died in 'America's war path' since the end of WW2. Help everyone? Oh so why arn't you guys going into samalia? Millions have died in Samalia from the two warlords battling it out, MILLIONS! Oh thats right, they dont have any oil or valuable resources, just dirt and black men with AK's.
Global conflicts and accidents we are always there. The Tsunami in Europe. We were there.
Global conflics wern't always there, only in the last few hundred years have they come up, and the USA has had its hand in 90% of them in the last 50 years. And whats this? Tsunami in Europe? What are you on about? The Tsunami happened on the other side of the planet to Europe you goon.
IRaq (I know we shouldnt be there) BUT!!!, We are spreading democracy. A philosophical belief that helps lives, and saves people.
"Spreading democracy" is just another way of saying 'Invading and occupying'. You could say Hitler was just "Spreading Nazism", its what he belives was right and best for the world. And of course, heaven forbid any country should try and impose its ways onto the cultures of others... oh, wait! ?_?

Helps lives and saves people? Tell that to the millions that have died in its name.
We dont really hold power over anyone else.
Oh no, of course, when an American soldier tells a civillian to get down on the ground and put their hands behind their head at gunpoint, they do it completly out of their free will! Because the rest of the world LOVES the USA and all want to be like it.

But lets keep this in perspective, this argument could rage on for ever. Arguing over the internet has very little point, ESPECIALLY arguments about religion and politics. Think about that before you guys post again.

in The Trophies. Post #172907
Just some notice, but the bronze and golden trophies look very very similar. I actually didnt notice the difference until I read the numbers on them just now (while looking through a profile).

I would suggest making the trophies more noticable.

Perhaps a new colour sceme?

3rd - A red tinted plain cup with a red ruby incrested in the middle.
2nd - A blue trimmed shiney cup with blue energy / blue safires around the rim.
1st - A green flash looking cup with lots of emeralds all over it and gothic like style.

Or you could just mess with the colours of them a bit to make it more noticable, just a suggestion. :)
