in need help texturing a stairway railing Post #206113
What you should do is select the side faces before slanting the railing down then use the alt-rightclick trick to apply the texture coordinates to the tops of the railings (that are textured with NODRAW right now) - Then when you apply the slant in the railing and the texture is messed up, select those top faces and use the alt-rightclick trick to apply those coordinates onto the sides of the railing. Then you can apply NODRAW or another texture on the top as you want.

It's a valid topic of conversation. The general board is for general discussion for everyone, not solely for topics about modding or gaming. It's not just for Europeans or Americans or anyone else. You can talk about whatever the fuck you want in here (within reason), and I think this is easily within reason. I don't see why not. You guys can have threads about your national days of rememberance and I wouldn't go bash them - I don't really think they serve a purpose but it's still a valid topic of conversation.

If you guys don't agree with the thread or don't think its useful then just ignore it, that's not too difficult, yeah?

I've got like 4 hard drives in my PC and two of them are full ;P - and they're about 160gb each or so. Movies and music fill up your space quick quick.

I would go with the 160 or 100 - They've got a decent RPM and decent space. If you need extra storage just get an external HDD.

He's obviously a smartass (one thing the video does prove with his remarks like "YOU AER ABUSING POWARS" and "I SAID I'D LEAVE" [yeah, after he started a bunch of shit]) and thinks he can get away with mouthing off to an officer of the law and just walk away. Stupid move. If he would have complied in the first place there wouldn't have been a problem. It's his own stupid fault. Yes, tazering him multiple times was probably excessive, but it worked. He finally realized after getting shocked with the damn thing a few times that he wasn't going to get out of the situation until he complied, which he does at the end, and they stop tazering him.

in VIDEO: Police Defend Shooting 92-Yr Old Post #203869
It's mildly justified. If the lady did not open fire, the police probably would not have returned it. However, if you're in that situation as an officer, you bust down a door and end up being greeted with gunfire, you will fire back. I don't think anyone would not fire back. A 92-year old with a gun is not necessarily different than a 20 or 30 year old with one. However due to her age, yes, it probably was confusing and difficult for her to tell what was going on or who was entering her house, perhaps why she decided to fire the gun in the first place.

Have a look at this, too - These are incidents which are unjustified. If the woman was indeed selling drugs and there was a warrant for her arrest or the search of her house then the officers were in the right and acted accordingly.

in Thoughts on Dynamic Weapon Prices in CSS Post #203114
I'm not too keen on the idea; While it's an interesting concept in theory and perhaps encourages players to use other weapons, I don't think CSS or other multiplayer games of this nature are good places to attempt to model economics and a virtual marketplace; that should be left to the MMORPGs instead.

in Making the character follow a function w Post #203112
I would assume this would be handled through movement code, specifically, the jump section. I would assume implementing curves for movement would involve a simple mathematical formula and a bit of code tweaking and replacement; unfortunately I know little about the Source codebase myself. You might be better off at the VALVe Wiki or HL2World.

in Great Source for Custom Textures Post #203111
You do know using these images as textures in your own maps is illegal, right? Even if just for personal use, you don't have license to the images, unless specifically noted by the author.
If you're working for a non-profit function (ie modification usage) then its technically a violation of copyright and they could sue you but it's very unlikely. If you're working for a commercial studio or with commercial intent then you should probably be a little more careful.

I like Mayang and CGTextures especially for my texturing resources, never been a big fan of Berneyboy's stuff. If all else fails, take a digital camera and go outside for a while.

in Clouds above the city Post #200490
There's animated cloud textures for Ravenholm and C17 or other environments. Do a texture filter for 'cloud'. You can just have them on a func_wall in the skybox and they'll animate too, no need for a conveyor. (At least when I tried it.)

Also, the CS:S clouds like those in Office are prop models as Ant said, to be used on a prop_dynamic or something. The texture also animates on those.

Falling Water

This isn't just a playable map for HL2, but the architectural study of a famous house in the Pennsylvania woods, nicknamed "Falling Water" by its creator, Frank Lloyd Wright.
Architecture geeks have been hugely excited by the project, which recreates the legendary home using floorplans and photos. As commentator Geoff Manaugh observes: "Architectural schools could instantly boost students' morale if their course orientation packets came with a videogame wherin users go around blowing up anything built by Le Corbusier... Or Space Invaders: The Next Generation, where you defend 100,000 acres of Colorado wilderness from architecturally unimaginitive suburban housing"
The Colorado bit is funny because it's sadly so true. Ten years ago we could drive for twenty minutes and be in the foothills with plenty of open space. Now we drive for two hours into the mountains and still see new development. It sucks.

You'd almost have to use custom content to achieve anything funny. The default HL2 assets don't make for anything particularly funny unless you pose them weird in Garry's Mod and mess with Gman's face.

Agreed. Let those damn Source mappers wait this one out, anything submitted for HL2 is going to automatically look 10x better than HL1, and will most likely affect the judging in some way or another, no matter how funny the entries are.
I think opening it up would be a great idea - By waiting it out we wait about 3 months for a new fucking competition. I'd like to have more stuff to occupy myself with source-wise instead of waiting forever for a new competition. Looks don't matter, the comedy value does.

You can sign up for a 14 day free trial if you want to play without paying (and they dont make you give a creditcard or anything, you just cant play after that.) You can actually do a lot within that trial, I managed to get my skills up to flying cruisers and ran a few mining ops and missions and got myself into GoonFleet before the time expired. Once you get ingame and make money (at least in GF) you can purchase timecards with ingame money and end up pretty much playing for free.
