Going to be blunt, the chance of me getting my entry done in 12 days time is close to 0. Got to thank the ever-increasing amount of university work for that!

Well technically your entry doesnt have to look visually 'good'... When I did my level for TWHL tower or last comp I knew I wasn't very good at making visually interesting stuff so I just smashed something together and made it abstract/weird. Therefore its strength was in its personality and not its architecture.

As I was thoroughly inspecting Archie's excellent screenshots (I wouldn't expect less from a photography-oriented person like him), I had so many nitpicks I realised why I don't map anymore (I mean FFS, why do none of the window sills and lintels line up with the edges in the rows of bricks?? Change those heights, man!). I do that to my own maps too and end up giving up in despair.

That half-motivated me to try my hand at participating until I realised that, because I have a final next Friday, then it's my birthday, then I'll spend Sunday sleeping, I'd only have two days to make a map - IF I don't have to work on those two days. So... maybe I'll make a drawing and post that instead.

I haven't caught up on the thread in a while, but I also support the extension request.

Like Zeeba, I've restarted my entry from scratch at least 3 times, in favor of a more fun idea, and/or I may actually be able to finish in time.

I have to say though in spite of struggling to commit to one idea, never have I had more fun coming up with possible enhancements/changes to existing maps.

If I had it to do over I'd never have picked the HLDM map I did though, which is Subtransit.

I've grown to hate the map for reasons of the contest, but man deconstructing the map I can really appreciate the skill that went into it, especially for being built way back then.

Also I have to say Trempler you are a genius for mashing up sever HLDMs together, as they are all a bit blah or have some other flaw/distraction about them singularly imo.

Some amazing WIPs in here too btw, jeez! :o

Nothing that can't be achieved in 10 days :P

I reckon the extension, if given, should be two weeks, not a month. Seems like it's been mostly an issue of inspiration, and now that everyone is getting into it, the creation process should be a lot smoother. (IMO)

Trempler's map testing vid

Sorry, the video came out a little dark. Didn't really edit it, just strung together all the footage.

As for my final attempt, i've finished the layout. I've also decided on the theme and designed a few areas. This is huge! Progress underway! :D

I was initially going to remake all of On A Rail in Half-Life 2. But then it dawned upon me what a monumental task that was and all motivation to participate in this competition escaped out of me, like air from a balloon.

@DocRock: Getting some serious Mass Effect vibes from that theme. This is not a complaint.

@Unq: Very faithful recreation and a fantastic idea. I can imagine Blast Pit would make for a hell of a deathmatch map.

@Jessie: Genius. If there's one thing we need more of in this world, it's camo nets... on poles...

If your entry is for HLDM, i suggest making a new wad with only the textures you're using.

Alright, i'll just use the WADs while i'm working and merge them when i'm done.

The map i'm making will take op4_rubble and take elements from Blue Shift's Power Struggle coolant areas.

So far i've got the exterior courtyard wall done:

I'm calling it cryostruggle, since it'll take the original rubble map and turn the lab into a cryogenics storage facility. The exterior and upper areas will be rubble, the lower areas will be based on Power Struggle's areas to double the map's size. It'll also let me extend the damaged portion of the map to include a much larger area. Maybe i can include a crashed Apache somewhere too to indicate what caused the damage.
