If you're using Windows Vista or 7, you probably don't have write access to the Program Files directory. Try giving yourself permission to write to that folder, running Hammer as an administrator, or just disabling the UAC through user options in the control panel. I don't know all the details of getting around errors like this if you don't have control over UAC, because I always have it disabled.

Have you tried compiling to a location in your documents folder, and copying the BSP into the correct location afterwards?

Are your tools, steam, and hammer files all on the same partition? Mine aren't and they work, but i've heard of others having trouble with that.

idk double-check all your information under game configurations and build programs. This looks like a incorrect path error. post your configuration screens if you want.

I would also highly recommend this tutorial by Seventh-Monkey, in particular, the last bit about using the SUBST command for simplifying your paths.

Check all your paths (Tools-->Options...), the "Access denied" error is usually the result of not setting up the paths correctly.

Make sure all folders exist, I remember getting errors when I didn't have a "maps" folder.

...But it's for a mod that's already been released, so unless you deleted it the maps folder should be there.

You're using old tools. You may want to upgrade.

ok i have one more question:
"Error: Entity 0, Brush 304: outside world(+/-4096): (3152,-4112,-3492)(3920,4048,164)
Error: Entity 0, Brush 305: outside world(+/-4096): (3152,-4112,-3492)(3920,4048,164)
Error: brush outside world"
ok this is from the last log i posted so i decided to look up which brushes these where both of these brushes are my skybox how can my skybox be outside of world?
Posted 13 years ago2010-08-04 21:44:12 UTC Post #283924
Use the check for problems function- you probably have invalid solids caused by clipping, carving or VM'ing the brushes in a way the compile tools and engine can't handle. It happens. The fix option in Check for problems usually fixes it, but can compromise the shape of the brush. Make sure all your geometry is on grid and can be make out of triangles and you shouldn't get this error often.
