@Suparsonik
I've seen maps named like this before. The "_b5" suffix would stand for beta 5, i think... Meaning the map is under development and the final version of the map would normally have no such suffix. Seems like in this case the map would be in it's final stages before a last pass/polish.

Personally i'm waiting on the new intel generation chips and will probably get a new custom rig based on whatever AMD brings to the table to compete with the i9's (as it currently stands right now, might change my opinion in the future).
Pretty sure my current build (i7 4820k, 1060 6gb, 16gb) would fare horribly with V-RAY for real time engines, which my future rig will be built around on.

Earlier this year, we built for my cousin's-in-law a similar rig. We almost went for 1080p with a Xeon system (at a nice discount), they we're highly recommended at that time for 3d rendering.
Previous plan was a single monitor setup with either a 16gb ram and 960gtx 2 gb(the graphic card would get upgraded at a later time), or 8gb ram and 970gtx 4gb (where the ram would get upgraded 1st at a later time).
They stretched their budget a bit to get 16gb ram and a 970gtx 4gb for a dual monitor setup.

I think nowadays you should first take a look at the Ryzen cpus, they're the best bang for the buck (in most cases) according to reviews.
It's been about 16 years since i've last touched Autocad, so no comment on that, but as a casual user almost everything i used lately has been cpu intensive when it comes to 3d rendering. Off the top of my head, a couple of times i've seen Maya and Substance stress my gpu, but not much else.
Of course, Unreal 4 will give the gpu a run for your money. Pick your poison :)

Sucks to hear, man. My condolences.
Almost all the elders in my family had really long, healthy lives (~ 90-100), except for my great grandfathers that both died serving in WW2. Up until a couple of years ago after my grandmother had a hearth stroke, (she's recovered since then) everything had been going pretty smooth. I get to visit about once every couple of weeks but, like Jeff, i can't help but feel concerned whenever i think of her.

Yup. I'm a fool for blue and night scenes, so the atmosphere in this one tickled my pickle the most. There's another moody one that i liked with some sort of asian structure on top of the hills, but the front tree blended a bit too much with the rest of the background.

Not bad. I think it would look better with a bit more color; those poor cliffs could use some height variation and depth aswell.

My condolences. A movie from bed, or a chill game will work out better than booze in the long run, when life decides to kick me straight in the marbles.

Ain't nothing to it but to do it. It's one of the many reasons I never took level design seriously; it never lasts for too long so I treat it like a hobby. Do whatever I want, whenever I want.
UE realated stuff I can stretch for longer periods of time, gs/source not so much; damn engine limitations can get infuriating at times.

Seems pretty fun, with my skill though i'd probably end up making a collection of phallic shaped things.
On a somewhat related note, I signed up for a handcrafted leather shoe course, beginning in semptember, because that seemed fun as well. The catch is, I signed up thinking this was a generic 6 month course and now it turns out the damn thing can last up to 2 years.

I think i just dug my own grave.

Instead of going for a budget "gaming" pc, why don't you get one of the newer consoles that are about to hit the market? You'll be able to play any of the new titles, and most of the pc games from last and upcoming years are usually ported; they even have backwards compatibility.
You'll still have the laptop for content creation, dev, apps, etc...

Once i'm set on a theme i start looking for reference images/videos, then usually planning out the basic concept and layout with pen & paper.
Soon as i'm satisfied with that, it's time to start up the level editor and build the basic layout.
Playtest and check scaling/timers/objectives/etc...
Iterate until it feels right.

Greybox/blockout the rest of the level with placeholders and check for gameplay.
Playtest & iterate until it feels right.

Import/export between software if needed.
Add basic textures with some placeholders (no UV/scaling/refining/etc).
Refine lighting and skybox (when going from light to dark).
Make assets & props and import them while focusing on a small part of the level (usually player spawn area), adding/refining/texturing any detail to specified area as i go.
Playtest & iterate until it feels right.

Expand from above mentioned area until the whole level is complete.
Playtest & iterate and change until it feels right.

(Refine lighting and skybox, when going from dark to light).

Detail and texture pass. Playtest & iterate until it feels right.
Lighting pass. Playtest & iterate until it feels right.

Quick and dirty workflow guide from UT devs, but the basics are valid for any HL engine.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDsJOFyxMnw
Mapcore also has a crazy amount of workflow guides and links.

ps: I'm too lazy to finish any maps lately but i like to comfort myself thinking that my levels from ~last 2 years have died in greybox stage due to bad gameplay. Which is also true... >:)

Pretty much correct, for casual everyday, use. I bought a SSD mostly because of the people nagging on me to get one whenever we talked about tech. Supposedly after having one, i could never go back to HDDs. Well, here i am, typing on 10 a y/o laptop that i usually carry with me when not on my home desktop, still not having a problem with HDD builds and still thinking that it wasn't a great investment.
Sure, the start-up/loading times are not even remotely close and the data transfer is somewhat noticeable on my commonly used software, which according to windows history is mostly 3d software stuff.

Imho, for everyday use i'd say it all depends on what you already have and how your current hardware is holding up. If you're the type that has to deal with loading times/data transfer often and you're counting the seconds, then sure, go for it. If you're trying to squeeze a bit more fps in games and 3d apps, upgrade somewhere else.

EU should of been a free market to get the flow of goods and qualified workers going, nothing else. While living in an era of hidden political agendas, personal interests and greed, no sane person should have to accept policies and regulations from someone that can't understand a word of their native language from the other side of the continent.
While i'd like nothing more than to see all countries united under a roof, EU model is not the way to go for far too many reasons to list here.

I'm really hoping UK can prove everyone wrong and stay up on it's feet because change, from within or not, is needed right now to sort this circus out.
Commented 7 years ago2016-06-24 08:41:54 UTC in journal: #8715 Comment #46194
@Jessie: I believe the biggest factor for the "Leave" camp were the immigration policies, which in the UK had given the non-english speakers a head start and a guaranteed job somewhere. It was only a matter of time before it would bubble up.

As for UK outcome, unless the rest of EU countries follow their path, they will most likely going to be bombarded with whatever sanctions can circumvent WTO (World Trade Org.) by EU, not because it would be needed, but because lack of common sense and empathy.

By the sound of it, i imagine that rig is going to be under a lot of pressure most of the time :P, so i wouldn't underestimate the cooling.
See if you can find out how the interior will end up looking like and plan ahead to have a good airflow.
Quick google search says 3 x 120mm fans, which sounds a bit weird. Also, by the look of it, there's really nothing trying to exhaust the gpu heat through the back. Imho, don't leave it at that; i'd add at least another fan at the front (they're really cheap). If you do add the bottom-front fan, try to install all your drives up, near the optical ones.

Opinions are great, but then there's steam stats webpage. CS 1.6 has been in the top 10 list ever since it's inception.
I'd say, if you`re not concerned about monetizing from your mod, go ahead and spend your time with GS, it's going to be here for a long time no matter what skeptics say. With a few graphic engine tweaks here and there, Volvo could probably still pull enough money out of it, but alas...
P.S.: Source/SDK is old AF too.

Ohhhh yeahhhhh...I've seen the cs version of this one, from sven coop. Easily a favorite, reminds me of 2001:A space odyssey. Could of added a bit more depth if it were for colder lights, instead of some of the white ones. Imma try the other levels soon.

How is the interface looking so far, easily customizable? Is the white background on explorer & apps still bright enough to hurt the eyes?
I've heard from others they are seeing fps improvements in games, nothing seriously benchmarked, just rumors. I'm hesitant to accept my Win reserve when it becomes available because of the whole UI customization thing...
