No, -wadinclude is for specific WADs. You're thinking of the original parameter, -nowadtextures. That behaved as you described. -wadinclude just includes the (presumably custom) texture packs that you declare.

Okay, I saw the rage against Manhunt on the news in connection with this murder (BBC article) and I wondered what peoples' opinion of this was.

I don't think it's fair to blame games for peoples' behaviour. Okay, so Manhunt sounds very odd, and maybe the authors are nuts, but to blame games seems a little stupid. That's like blaming someone copying something in, say, a book, on the book itself.

Anyway, in the words of hundreds of essay questions, "discuss".

PS: let's keep this flame- and spam-free, yeah?

It's likely to be distinctly architecture-based. Unless you interpret it in a very different way (which you're more than welcome to, if it's possible).

I'm not writing the exact brief. I just suggest ideas, then Andy and atom sort the rest out really.

I think we should keep all the HL1 discussions and start other sections to start catering for HL2. We're already a well-established community - we could become the top place for HL2 mapping if we get going :)

Gottit and played it. Really nicely done, the way it all links up, but I can't honestly see that hint brushes would help that much. They're best for big open spaces, not rooms (as far as I know). Maybe someone else'll think differently.

in Disappearing faces in software mode Post #46269
Direct3D is inferior to OpenGL for Half-Life. There is no way to fix short surfaces in Software, and if you mind remotely, go buy a 3D accelerated graphics card for a tenner from your local PC shop.

Walls that are very close together will be rendered as if they inhabited the same plane from a distance, hence the nasty Venician Blinds effect you sometimes get with textures cutting across each other.

in Wad not found Post #46267
Make sure that WAD is definitely not in your texture list (remove them all, restart Hammer, and re-add the ones you need, then restart again) and recompile your map.

If it still happens, just find some small WAD file, copy it to valve and rename it cs.wad.

Right, so let's drop that idea till atom returns and comments.

I personally think the avatar size should be reduced (120x120? Just looks so stupid with one-line posts and people with huge avatars), and restrictions on the size of images posted using <img> tags to stop them trashing the front page (latest posts) and the thread.
