Ok, I forced Sledge to use the Nvidia GPU, and the problem is gone.

It does happen on every map. It's like those zig-zaggy lines that can be seen when walls meet exacerbate when seen from a distance.

Yes it seems like the faces overlap but no, the texture that is protruding from the back is actually from the opposing face of the solid.

I can switch the renderer, but I only have the option to switch to solid texturing and wireframe. Who maps in that mode? :P

Ok I tried it for the first time. The performance while exploring in 3D is exceptional, I hope it's like this on the desktop too( testing under Intel HD4000 right now).

But what's keeping me from using it is the weird behavior of textured surfaces. The textures on different objects cut through one another and while moving around the map they move like a scanning effect.

Multiplayer? Now I don't know how that would help, but distributed computing would definitely be something badass.

Just so I don't create another thread:

Do you people have problems with a jerky hammer 3D view? After a map gets quite a few brushes and details it's very difficult to navigate. And this on an Intel E6500 Dual-Core and HD4850. Didn't test on my laptop yet.

I doubt my HD4850 can run this at decent details on 1920x1080. Even on my 1600x900 laptop screen with Nvidia 650m this would probably run on medium details.

I was testing my map after a compile and found one of the combines near a door. The thing is, this combine had no way of arriving in that state... because there's nothing to cause him damage:

I've got two problems:
First, it seems that cubemaps don't work anymore. I mean, they seem to be building right, but nothing changes once I get back in the map. Impulse 81 and the crossbow are pitch black.

Second, how do I correctly use a logic_multicompare? Currently, I've got 2 buttons that have the following outputs:
OnPressed -> (name of logic_multicompare) -> InputValue -> 1 (parameter override of)
OnPressed -> (name of logic_multicompare) -> CompareValues( with 0.5 delay)


logic_multicompare has the following keyvalues:

Integer Value: 1
Should use integer value: Yes


I've got several outputs OnEqual in the multicompare.

The problem is that it fires them after the first button is pressed. They should fire only when the 2 of them are pressed (like a multisource in hl1).

I was about to mail an instant-punch toy to Valve, when I found this thread.
Why the hell do I have to browse these intricate folder structures to START HAMMER, when it worked perfectly in the SDK.

I feel like the Valve developers are the most lazy asses ever.

[EDIT] Holy shit, now I have missing textures and stuff all over the place. It's a total mess.

Since Skals shouted this...NOOOOOOooooo

EDIT2: HOW do I compile for EPISODE 2? :| Found out how: Tools>Options>Configuration.

What happened to the model browser? The black interface is horrible, and some models aren't even viewable because of this(like some foliage).

Also, notice the texture currently selected in the top-right? That's a texture used in a HL1 project( hammer 3.5). What?

New bug/inconvenience: there's no feedback when clicking/hovering over a brush corner(those little white squares). That is truly annoying.

Thanks, unfortunately the gameplay will probably suck. I tried including a lot of doodas and interactive objects, but HL1 just doesn't comply with large areas. Thus, the lab-like part that you see coming out of the ship had windows in the past: I was forced to close them because of r_speeds skyrocketing above 7000. Under the ship I had to put "dirt" to make for some isolated areas that have decent r_speeds.

Rimrook, yes, I am considering the increase of light level globally or editing the lights.rad for some textures.

A similar story happened with this european guy. His HTC was stolen in Spain I think, but he had a dropbox account that syncs the photos from the device on his computer.
He made a blog where he posts every photo that is taken with the phone.

I know everything seems hard at first. But trust me, those are the easy stuff :). Try KhanAcademy, it's a good source of math tutorials. Although they usually tackle the easy stuff when it comes to uni math.

After working on my current map, which turns to be a total mess of interactive elements, I learned that Goldsource is all about creating a scene which fools you into thinking it is detailed. Like this one, minimal "fine" details, yet looks polished.

Moved my mapping activity on the laptop for now. Odd and annoying problem: I can't select brushes\faces from up close. It's as if they have some kind of specific point where I can only select them, or from a great distance, but that is clearly not the solution.
I suspect it has something to do with the Intel Drivers perhaps? I have an Intel HD4000 graphics on my laptop and Nvidia 650m ( hl1 is forced to use HD4000, idk why, but it works fine anyway).

Ignore the fancy talk in your head. I'm currently making a HL1 map that, if I thought like that, I wouldn't release in ages( really crap r_speeds). Being idealistic is on of the traits we have to get rid of man.

Have any idea what's the key combination?

[EDIT] I think I'm pushing Half-Life to its limits, though it works pretty well. The current map I'm working on has areas with 6000w_poly, yet it stays at a clean 60fps. And this is on my old HD4850.
I am thankful that at least the compile times have been ridiculously improved since I last tackled with Goldsource maps. This outside map would've taken hours to compile otherwise.
Fun fact: I am mapping on the big screen, putting the RMF in a dropbox folder, and compiling on the laptop which has an i7 CPU.

Windows 8 is only "closed" on the Surface.(I realize now what "closed" refers to) The desktop version is ok, it's just the endless discussions about the Metro UI. That's why I'm waiting for 8.1, native boot-to-desktop without additional programs.

[EDIT] Steam Machines.

IMO this will pulverize the current console market.
