vassy, i hate to ruin the party for you but if the op4 source was available, darktruths would still be alive

if you do find it, its probably illegal

look, your mapping problems are numerous and many... (tautology i know)

but:
the sdk contains all of the hl source code - so if you don't know that the hell C++ or coding is the i'm afraid you've wasted your time

you should really get to grips with the engine first and learn c++, then try the sdk

it works but it's not recomended,
sometimes, when you run from hammer, it does not work, but then when you run from the console, it works....

um, i think ng ment not 56k modems, more like 560k modems -
ie: broadband etc...
not that hl was 560k - that's insane and steam can not be used anywhere in the world on a 56k

and if you really care, you'll sit through a 12 , sometimes longer hour session to get the latest patch.. i would

and anyone who's a modem user and is trying to play steam should be ridiculed and made look like a handicap -
LOOK AT THE SPECS:

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP
64 MB RAM
400 Mhz processor
1GB HD space (recommended)
Broadband Internet connection (recommended but not required) - not required as in you can have other connections, like t2 or fiber-optic ones, NOT MODEM

oh, i do love a good rant... :)
no one will read it though, its too long ;)

if the console is 'down' in openGL mode it will always come up as 0fps,
the r_speeds output stops when the console is 'down' in software

short answer - this is not possible in hl - just a limitation of the game engine

btw, fog is suppourted in software - have a look ath c2a5 water > FOG!
BUT - no one has been successfull in getting this fog to work 'outside'
i.e. -not in water without resorting to openGL

yes, this is possible - use env_fade > and check the modulate flag
this creates semitransparent 'fog' - its not really fog mind you, but you can see through it

well andy pretty much said everything i was going to (or at leats was going to think of writing)

the 'skip' texture can be extremely handy - with hint brushes etc..

i'm still looking for a tutorial on hints that's usefull to most mappers and not just the hardcore that's been here since the quake days

in fans Post #2812
i think you mean the Z axis... ie when looking down on it or looking up ?
the center if the origin brush determines the point of turning - it makes no difference what shape it is > the compiler automaticaly gets rid of all of the 'brush' during a compile and the set model centers retains the pointof the axis.. blah blah blah...

if you leave the two flags empty : x and y the fan spins arround the z axis > hl uses the left hand rule for the yaw pich roll / x/y/z thing - don't take my word for it i may be wrong about this, i probably am..
any way, i hope that helps
