well...good luck.

Edit: bythe way, if you get used to mapping for source, would you leave goldsource behind you?

that depends HLG, goldsource is a dying breed.

more like the mappers for goldsource are a dying breed. TWHL is among the few remaining places that actively supports it.

Aye, it would nice if we had a more even blend of Source and GoldSource mappers around here, though. Source doesn't get nearly enough loving.

lol.

Gave Blender a good whirl, it has possibly the best texturing tools I've ever seen. learn to use it and it will spoil your habits! Its easy once you get its work flow down good enough, plus there are several video tutorials on youtube and their website.

That being said, things are looking up since I don't have to spend a day unwrapping, I only get to spend an hour, or perhaps a few minutes and then paint that same day. :3

Sad to say that speeds up a lot of work for other things, which may lead to time on this.

I am now working on: 9 projects (simultaneously)

I've been saying that about blender for years. But everybody was complaining about the nonstandard interface.

And its real damn fun to make something, then scale up and print out the unedited UV. you can fold it up and link the seems and you'll have a paper model.
Posted 15 years ago2008-09-08 14:27:42 UTC Post #255059
or get Pepakura two, which does a majority of the hard work for you as far as papercrafting goes.

You are seriously using Blender? What is this world coming to, i never ever ever could/can/wont get used to it, and god knows I've tried, oh yeah i did...

Maybe, just maybe I should try it again.
Posted 15 years ago2008-09-08 17:23:33 UTC Post #255062
yeah its not like i can model anything in it. but i like the unwrapping tools. thats about it.

im still using max to model stuff and clean everything up.

don't bash on blender. it's on the the easiest modeling tools to learn and run, and it's completely free with a huge support community.
hell
i love it

Its good for what the club needs, but I need it for texturing. Speaking of which, I found out who's under my wing, which only one person. Whats the fucken point of being given a leadership role when its only two artists? A few of the other teams were like that as well, and it created a whole lot of animosity amongst the departments. Like the environment modelers had only two people. There are some serious holes in the talent of the club, and there are about 23 people in the club as a whole. I'm not sure where this is going and it seems like the project is going to do a 6D through out its progress.

Also, speculating on Spore, my roomy says that it seemed to have pulled a 6D as well. I believe him, but I might write a letter to EA about it. A full circle in the game would be masterfully brilliant, but its so close to doing so. From my understanding, you play as the pilot of a ship at the last stage. But this should be in the game; you should be able to leave the ship and play as a commander with some squad members, and for the weapons, you make them from various parts you've collected from defeating or befriending enemies. Essentially a revamp of the Evolution stage. That, and the ability to have multiple ship to control, the one-ship thing is a bit tiresome traveling everywhere.

I say near the end, it feels absolutely rushed. I do hope that, for the love of god, the attempt to redeem themselves. It's not game of the year quality yet. It's still fun, but it needs that epic conclusion that the scope of the game requires.

The demo's currently ~93% complete and on hold due to Uni for Rim and due to the last year of highschool for me. However, it will be inevitably released, since the stuff left to do isn't that major and stopping at such a point would be plain silly.

Patience, please. :)

Plain silly indeed.

In essence, we're also not trying to screw this up as well. I have a shortlist of things I'd like to do. Perhaps in the next week or two I can get something done. Remind you I have a new array of tools at my fingertips, and I plan to use them.

Just do us the favor of throwing up a status report once a week or so.
Even something along the lines of:

"Piss off I'm not done yet."

Will be more than satisfying :)

heh, kinda.

My school thinks I don't have a life. It looks grim for everything except for homework. I couldn't even imagine trying to hold a job right now.

Slowly, I'm mapping a little something new for Daub'sters's' HLDM server.

I would like to simply get it to the same level as Flat-Life. More like a kit for people to map for and its open for a variety of mappers and mapping styles. I already talked about it.

Sweet. Maybe i'll start modelling again. the 3ds max uvw unwrapping is ridiculously time consuming and gay.

The maprookie site looks neglected and sad. didn't you used to have a flash interface and/or a shoutbox/comments? I could be wrong, but it seems a lot simpler than i remember. Plus the 6D demo link are brokie... = (

From what I saw on your site, rimrook, your mod is actualy good quality.
And if you have models like the one in your "project" image, you can really contact valve to put it on steam for a little price ;)
I'm expecting a better quality than "The trap" mod, which was excellent.
