I am NO hardware expert at all and I did it so if that tell you anything.

All you are doing is making the connection hot enough on the bottom to let you pull out the capacitors, you clean the hole with something like a sewing pin or something that thin, thread your new parts, cut 'em off, and drop a small drop of solder on the joint.

I did a little test soldering on a used board that i didn't need and i got pretty good in a day or so. I guess you have to have a little patients as well. If you don't have this, then just chunk the board.

Just trying to help. I knew the capacitors were bad. Usually the culprit.

It is super simple to fix your problem. Do not replace anything before you at least give it a try. What's the worst that's going to happen? You going to make it worse? lol. I don't think so.

Did you actually inspect the motherboard? Find the capacitors that are slightly raised and those are your culprits. Looks around the chip itself. There should be a group of them and usually this is where they are fried.

I know you can use a soldering gun. Heat 'em up and take 'em out and put the new ones in and solder 'em back. Simple.

I fixed my "broken" motherboard for under $10 and about 2 hours of work. I took my time so I wouldn't screw anything up. Serious, it's simple!

There are a ton of videos on yourtube if you need video help.

I think I am on the fence on this one.

I like Steam but sometimes it gets on my last nerve.

We already have services for music and movies. Netflix and take your choice of music services that already offer DRM. How is Steam going to do it any better?

I think it would be nice if you actually got a disk and maybe some paper instructions/whatnot with your freaking game purchase. If they had to do this then I don't think they would make as much money and the 30-70 margin would be more like 50-50. They make hand over foot because they never have to ship anything to anyone. Therefore they never spend any money on anything but game development and employees. Also, leaves alot more money to advertise which is pretty non-existent if you ask me.

Like I said, I am on the fence....

Not all Americans are fat. I think this is a really nasty stereotype that gets propagated unfairly. If you live in the South East then, yes, there are alot of people who are overweight. This is a generational thing where people used to HAVE to eat more calories because they WORKED and needed it. With farming becoming less popular in the states people get "fat" because they are eating the same but not working the same. And this also get transferred from generation to generation. Fat parents, fat children.

They are stereotypes for the whole world....lol

Kahlua is the base then spoon in One layer of Bailey's and One Layer of Grand Marnier. If you did it right then it should look layered. lol

Really nice little map...I haven't loaded a DM map in a minute.

I am not going to break off a full review but will make a few points...

Like I said, loved the map but I did feel like I was in a bowl the whole time. I am sure with some action and a few players you wouldn't have time to notice this as much.

I did like the blowing sand effect but it really got on my nerves after awhile and I wanted it to go away. Maybe make it a little more random. Also, if you are spawned away from the start of the dust cloud then you can see it "start", as if with a switch from god.

And I would have loved to be able to jump from the first building on the right to the second building. That's just me though.

I am making a similar map and you gave me some great ideas so it wasn't a total loss for me to load the map and check it out.

I give ya 4 out of 5 just because the sand really bugged me...

When you say failing to boot...what do you mean?

Does the computer run fine sometimes and then other times "won't boot" or has problems booting?

Lemme tell you a cool story that has a happy ending....

About 6 months ago we had a electrical storm that caused a power surge. In turn, it fried my wife's computer. The thing would come on sometimes and make it to the desktop but had serious problems. Eventually, it would not even boot. This is after I pretty much removed everything it took to make the machine work, network card, cd drive, etc. This drove me mad for days until I looked up capacitor problems.

If you look on your motherboard around your chip, you will see all your "starter" capacitors. These 5-10 units store the power needed to start your computer. When your computer starts it needs alot of power to get past the boot stage. The capacitors help regulate the over-power as well and keeps everything from getting fried. If these are bad then they will not be flat on top anymore and could possibly be leaking a brown ooze.

If you know how to de-solder/solder then you shouldn't have any problems fixing your computer. It costs under $10 for the parts and about 2 hours of your time. There is a nice video on yourtube. I will see if I can find it. You definitely don't want to scratch the gold plating on the back.

I replaced eight on my motherboard and the computer hasn't had one single problem since. I have another motherboard with similar symptoms that I am going to fix soon (it only needs one).

Check your whole motherboard for other blown capacitors. Your technician should have been able to see anything wrong on the motherboard if he was looking.

Obviously, the model can't find the texture correctly or you have renamed it something that it shouldn't be. Not exactly sure where you are having the problem but it is super simple. Don't give up!

I do models all the time and the only problem I have really is mixing up the vertex and the standard lighting.

I wasn't trying to dampen anybody's mood or say that you shouldn't have friends. I was quoting a bit of life to try and get a reaction, possibly a laugh. I don't live by everything my father taught me or I would be a basket case like him.

Chicks are confusing anyways. Just stick to being you and the rest will sort itself out, you know? I have lost alot of old friends but it doesn't bother me because I guess we weren't really true friends anyways.

My dad told me once, "friends are only good for two things, wasting your time and wasting your money".

I don't know how true that actually is. I have thought about it alot over the years but if I actually put it into context it is scarily truthful.

Not to say that I don't have some "good" friends. For the most part though, everyone will disappoint you at some time in your life. Even your kids and your parents. It's a part of life that we have to reason with.

I wish you all the luck my friend, in whatever you do.

Let's stay on point here...(and not that point!)

It's hard to know what to tell you man because I don't know the girl. If you have already told her how you feel then it's just a matter of time before you will know you answer. And maybe you are right, maybe you just need to cool off for a minute. If she really really wants to keep that communication then she will find you.

1. NEVER let them see you sweat. Or in other words, don't let her see that
it bothers you. This works for lots of things actually.

2. Waiting a woman out can sometimes have positive effects. Along with
number one, this should bring her to you if she is serious.

3. Ultimately, there are other fish in the sea. Don't limit yourself to
one person.

Where is the love guru when you need him? Hunt? Can't you help this poor fellow in need with a few words of advice. I know your a player and at least have a little bit of knowledge to pass on.

Rule #1 has ALWAYS worked for me....it's like a pheromone or something.

I liked it man!

I thought it could have used a little action on the way to the red button but it's all good. A few minor skirmishes would have added life.

The ladders were a bit tricky while trying to fend off the hoard.

The only real complaint I have is that when you look over the side when you are at the top you feel like you are in a box. I can see the box! Maybe my gamma is set a little too bright but you shouldn't see this at all.

All in all I give it a strong 4.9 -- if you could do that so....5!

I don't map for Half-Life 1 anymore but I did download and review your map.

Not bad for your first completed map.....

I can't stress enough to use a nodraw or null texture when you start a map and create your brushwork. I know this is a small map but your render speeds and overall performance will be greatly enhanced if you weren't rending all those unneeded textures. You could simply nodraw or null texture EVERYTHING and then re-texture the inside of your office. Shouldn't really take more than 20 minutes. It really bugged me to see textures on the outside of your office space. If you had a larger map this would greatly slow everything down and make your render speeds horrible.

I didn't see a big problem with the "thickness" of your walls. Alot of HL1 maps are like this--blocky and dull. This is why I don't map for HL1 anymore. You could add a little "round" to your map. Maybe some models that are roundish? I don't mind that the map is blocky though--it's an office!

The door textures are really whack. I know there are original and I know they are set right--texture wise, but it just looks weird--like the doorknob is way too low.

And I know I am not a real fixture around here but you could have added my avatar. lol.

I finally got around to re-installing half-life 1...sorry.

Overall I like it all, and they only two that I wouldn't make any comments about is Rimrook and WorldCrafter. Those two caught my eye the most and made me stop and look around a bit. Love the chick by the pool, nice touch. Even though she didn't have a face it was a surprise to see that coming around the bend.

All and all I think it was a great success and congratulations to all.

Let's do this for Source now....

I said that was my first "working" map.....

My actual first map was a massive skybox the size of the whole editor--by that I mean as big as you can get it and I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't render on the crappy computer I had at the time. Then I proceeded to create a whole stupid little overground/underground complex that was so out of proportion by the time I actually did get to really render it in any kind of fashion (cordon, which I figured out later) I was really little compared to my buildings, doorways, textures, EVERYTHING! I was really highly disappointed with myself. I spent all this time and it never came to pass. I still have the file around here somewhere. I may upload it for shear laugh purposes. I think I gave up for awhile until I found a tutorial on how to make that room. The rest is history.

you should see some of my first maps. I consider them good cause I spent alot of time on them but when I actually go back and really look at some of these earlier maps I see ALL kinds of errors. It's called learning dude!

I think the reason it takes me so long to finish anything anymore is cause I don't want to have all those errors so I spend enormous amounts of time getting the maps just right from the start.

my first map was a two boxes put together with a couple of lights and posters on the wall. I got giddy like a schoolgirl when it actually come up and I could see my masterpiece unfold--and I have been hooked on mapping ever since.

you shouldn't take it like that. that's why I don't post any maps because I cant take the criticism at all. I loved the concept it just seemed like you rushed the map itself and didn't really give it the attention it needed. I really didn't see alot of models or detail to give it that flair it really needs. I would have expected to see alot of foliage and trash everywhere.

you skills will improve....be patient. Took me quite a few maps to get where I am now. It's the entity work that I lack coordination on. I too will get there.

I have to say that the map itself was a little awkward....i.e. texture, texture scales, and just the map itself was a bit sloppy. I know you didn't focus alot on that so I didn't really mind. The sound was a little annoying while I was trying to figure out what to do.

I do give you kudos on the entity work. I am not that good with my entity set-ups. Must have taken you a minute to do all that. However, I did go get some money and come back and didn't get my $3 item. Keep saying $3 spent and then say I was out of money.

Overall, I give it a 2 out of 5 stars......

Great concept! keep up the good work!

I looked at your map and I like your elevator design. I give you marks for it. I would recommend that you nodraw everything and start over with the textures. The transparent textures really need that nodraw where you aren't going to necessarily see it. The middle of your doors where the two pieces meet should be nodrawed. This is not going to help your problem but it will help it look better when it renders and be faster as well. I always start with a nodraw texture when I build anything from scratch.

The multiple floors question was already answered on another thread but is simple as pie and it doesn't matter if you want to use the func_train or the func_movelinear. it's setposition/? or onpass/stop.

I was going to modify your map for you but I wouldn't like that so I didn't. Better for you to learn on your own. That's why I don't use prefabs anymore--defeats the purpose of learning to do it for yourself.

The example provided is not mine and was part of a very old map. I don't use the triangle method very much myself. I think I have one map that uses it. I would much rather use displacements myself.

This is why I don't map for half-life 1 anymore. I admit that steam is a major pain but it is far better for me to use the half-life 2 (source) than gold source or half life 1.

Good Tutorial but I still had to figure it out for myself. I created a simple crane to lift a cage. I didn't use your map--I created one from scratch. The position of the second pulley on the phys_pulleyconstraint is kinda important. Also worth noting is that the two entities assigned on the phys_pulleyconstraint need to be in the correct order or it won't work correctly. I think I have it figured out now. Nice Tutorial!
