For a game so focused on realistic sniping mechanics, the actual shooting felt more arcadey than a lot of modern shooters which is saying something. It also looks about 4 years old, but what really kills it for me is the lack of planning. What's the point in an assassination game where your path is completely laid out in front of you?
The kills are satisfying, sure, but the pornographic violence of it would wear thin incredibly quickly.

The point I was making was that for it to make any discernible difference to Valve's data gathering, many, many people would have to do it. The answer to your "why wouldn't they fuck with it?" question being that a mere few idiots couldn't fuck with it.

They will love the fact you've self-taught yourself so much. An incredible number of people have no instinct to just say "I want to make game levels. I'm going to find out how".

ThatGuy, you have shown absolutely remarkable progress in your mapping skills - I still remember playing Apartment only a few months ago, and your recent work is amazing by comparison.
Mapper's block occurs to us all, and I doubt there's a single member of these forums who hasn't started up Hammer and clicked around in the viewports for a few minutes before closing it again.
Play a few other peoples' maps and mods - the cool stuff will really re-ignite your mapping flare.
And gonna be honest - lol'd a little too loudly at Urby's post.

I don't have time to watch the full 14 mins at the moment, but I definitely will!
Just some quick notes from the first few minutes: A lot of it is over-exposed. There was an odd exposure shift during the climbing at the start in stages, almost like it was on auto expose. Consider investing in (or building) a better support for handheld stuff. Fig Rigs are best for this sort of thing, but a small shoulder-mount would be great as well.

That took me on a journey! Really ambient, love it.
I suggest you get a SoundCloud for showing off stuff like this, though. If you're gonna stick to youtube, upload at higher quality. I know, it's messed up that people now measure audio quality in video resolution terms, but it does have such a huge impact on quality on youtube. ("Omg this song is only 360p what tha fuck?")

Yeah, the BBC would fund a return journey with all camera equipment for the crew and Douglas himself which is why it's in his interest to appear in this.
I don't know where his 'mission' will take him, Striker, but it'd be great to grab a beer if we cross paths

I'll make sure you can all see it if it gets commissioned, but keep in mind I still have to pitch it against other potential programmes. This shortlist is the absolute last stage - if it succeeds here then it will be made, but the final hurdle is also the most difficult!

Madceh: I know it <3
Strideh: My original pitch really stressed how unbiased I would be, but the first few people I pitched it to said it didn't have enough meat and that I should try to cause more controversy. Happily, BBC3 is the only BBC channel willing to take such risks. So to answer your question, I will not be openly arguing with anything he says/does. I will simply question it. All of it.
Tayleh: Believe me, I'm very well read on the topic already. I like to know what I'm talking about before I openly denounce it. A. J. Jackobs is a good guy. I really like what he did, but boy is his voice annoying or what? Also "open-minded religious people" is a bit of an oxymoron. People who have belief but are still open minded tend not to actually follow any specific religion.

While I'm not quite as militant as I've seen Stojke be about it, what he's saying is genuinely true. If you want to see what Firefox will be like in 6 months use Opera now.

Parkour or Rock Climbing would be perfect. Big guys are at a serious disadvantage in both and you'd put on a lot of weight in muscle mass fairly quickly.
65lbs does not sound healthy. Consider consulting a nutritionist as well.

Be Positive, even if you don't feel the same way. Avoid self-pity, or the pity and sympathy of others. Never allow others to make you feel inferior--they can only do so if you let them. If you continue to loathe and belittle yourself, others are going to do and believe likewise. Instead, speak positively about yourself, about your future, and about your progress.

"Oh good idea, Archie. I'll dedicate some time to making a cool mod with interesting gameplay and imaginative design to try to show people an alternative to the drudgery of modern war games. It's a much better use of my time than spamming the forums and being a cynical asshole regarding other peoples' tastes while always saying that people are oppressing my own."

I had access to a still frame of real CCTV footage so I just put my camera at roughly the same height and angle to the actors. Fairly simple, but I had to use a jib arm because it was a good 9ft high.

"Greenscreen eh? Lots of roto then?" The whole point of a green screen is that you don't need to roto it :P.
"So you helped make the footage, which was used as part of a training exercise for the police?" I did the CCTV stuff entirely, the stuff filmed during the exercise was more for Diageo employees than the police.
"zomg so you mean they thought they were being helf[sic] hostage for real?!" They were never held hostage. There was one man held hostage - he was one of about 3 employees out of ~400 who knew it was staged. The others were just evacuated and then the rumour of what was happening was purposefully spread to cause panic which the management team had to deal with.
The armed police knew it was a drill to prevent accidents and did not have live ammo, but the other emergency services were responding to what they thought was a genuine call.
Apparently these large scale drills happen every three years, but never at the same time of year.

"Were you hired as an actor to perform in front of the CCTV system" No. I was a camera op and a VFX guy. I shot two people performing it in front of a greenscreen and put them in existing CCTV footage. Then I was camera op throughout the actual day.
"Were there real bullets being used, and purposely shot at whiskey tanks for the sake of the exercise?" Of course not. This is not southern USA.

There was no confirmation the guy had a gun, just sketchy eye-witness reports. Specific events happened at specific times, so the CCTV footage was "discovered" at 10:20, confirming the use of a firearm. Another example of these events (which none of the people involved know will happen and therefore have to react fluidly) would be that during the police raid, a tank of whiskey was ruptured by gunfire and presented a massive fire risk due to the thousands of gallons of flammable liquid that poured onto the plant floor.
I have to put up with this shit on teamspeak almost every night.
