Striker, I'm not saying it isn't there, I'm just saying it's necessary.
And I can't tell you how many times 'End Task' has given me the pop-up and still does nothing when you confirm it. And isn't that what the 'End Task' has been doing since XP? I'm pretty sure 7 at the very least does the exact same thing as what you've just said, analyses a program and attempts to shut it down properly, not always easy when it's a system process in the first place.
So long as each version of the OS is (structurally) based on the last version, you'll still come across old problems, albeit rarely. It's like a globe, you patch the bugs and holes and then later you put a whole new skin over it, sometimes replacing large portions of the original, but inside there is still part of the original. Much in the way the Source Engine still has defunct Quake code still in there, but this all scales to complexity, an Engine is in no way as complex as an OS.
My simple answer to the whole 7/8 debate: 8 is fine, but so is 7. In general, people dislike change, but sometimes change changes something that didn't need to be changed.
To be honest, with more support for Linux these days, I'm more tempted to move that way next time I upgrade my system. Microsoft is just flogging a dead horse and Mac is no better, I'd like to see how the other side of the coin goes.

'End Process' is a necessary button. My example:
I was troubleshooting a laptop at work not two weeks ago and explorer.exe would crash due to a corrupted CD when accessed. Using 'End Task' would put the laptop in a complete lock every time, requiring a full system reboot. By using the 'End Process' button, I forced explorer.exe to be stopped dead and was able to successfully save myself from yet another complete system restart by starting a new task and running explorer.exe.
Otherwise the rest of this conversation is meaningless to me because I'm using 7 and don't need to upgrade for any reason since I can keep using 7 for the next 2-6 years at least.

Zoink!
EDIT: I was actually going to try and remake this in TF2, but since the whole SDK is broken, it's being a real pain in my ass. Maybe when it's fixed...

It's not actually that bad. Yes, there is no ambience aside from the music that is looping (may get annoying, I didn't play long enough to find out) and despite being quite small, the layout is actually decent.
You've got some decent vertical gameplay in there with multiple levels and the better weapons a bit harder to reach. Your texturing this time is significantly better, though I did notice a few errors here and there. I'll give this a definately well earned, 3 stars.

Yeah, you're all right. I might just try to find another monitor then because it's more so I can have dual screens again.
I assumed it was a decent deal because my current monitor (the Samsung 2233BW) still goes for about $200, so all I'm paying extra for was the 3D kit.
If I can't find a decently priced monitor, I might get it simply because it's the same model that I already have for only a little bit extra. I can always re-sell the 3D vision kit on eBay and get some money back.
But that's only if I can't find a suitable monitor in the next hour.

That was lucky then XD
If I'd known you hate the horror genre I wouldn't have gone there. Glad it worked for you then.
Also, sorry about the missing textures. I should have checked that I didn't use the few custom textures I have in there, but I was rushing. I'll fix that up tomorrow.
It's a shame you didn't go further CT, it got scarier as you went.
Well, I played it on Christmas as promised (sorry for the late reply) and it was great!
Had a little trouble loading it because you left the title of the mini-mod as Spirit of Half-Life and because I already had Spirit installed, it didn't appear in my custom games list, but I fixed that by renaming it in the liblist.gam file.
But I really loved it, I was running along, wondering where it was going and then BAM! You hit me with a fantastic surprise. It was really well done!
Thankyou!

Haha, sure. If I'd known I wouldn't have suggested it. Sorry PB.
Also, just got a 25% off Dead Island coupon...WHICH I BOUGHT A FEW WEEKS AGO!!! rages So that's going in the mix.
Ok, so now I need to come up with another idea. Going through the old competitions help, so how about a feature map. Basically, I'll design a small bland level with a few features like pillars, platforms, pools, ect and the idea is to make it pretty, taking into account the pre-existing features. You can modify the features (and add more) but those base features have to still exist.
Similar to TWHL's first compo: Texture It, Light It, Play It from 2003. But with a little more flexability.

Well, since there already is a compo on atm and to encourage people o enter, it should be short and an entry can be done quickly. One mini-comp that I liked on Snarkpit was you had to make a map within the confines of a box roughtly 512Wx768Lx512H. Took people about 2 days on average to make an entry and some of the entries were great.
And perhaps a new years theme, whatever that may be, otherwise just themeless to keep it simple. But at this point I'm open to suggestions.

Well how about that then? If we all throw in our useless tickets and the winners get to pick out of all of them. 1st place gets to pick first, then second, ect. I don't know, either way, I wanna get rid of them somehow.
Not bad, Joebama, not bad at all. You do seem to get better with every map you make, so that means all the good stuff is rubbing off onto you
That aside, you've done quite alot to this map since your last one, the layout is much better and it really feels like a different map. I was glad you got rid of the swimming bit, but you replaced it with the outside area, which was dull and empty. The vent that was there made me think you could go in the vents, but you couldn't. This area should have been blocked off as it's just empty and goes nowhere.
The inside areas were great, not much to pick on there.
The upper area was pretty good, but it's very difficult to get out of the water. There was also a slight slipping problem in the floor when you walked along the right side after getting off the elevator. This area was pretty heavy on epolys but I was still getting 72fps, so no worries there.
Otherwise, it was a really good map. I'm proud of you Joe

Ok, to be fair, yes, it was Visceral but the company is owned by EA so they do whatever EA tells them to, and EA is handling nearly all media related news. For example, they have acknowleged other bugs, such as the Elite suit not being available in news updates. But with this more serious bug, they haven't said a word.
Anyway, I'm not having a rant about Dead Space in particular, just at EA and how they run things these days. For me, the Need For Speed franchise has been steadily going downhill, alot of their recent games are getting kinda samey and they have bad media and product management and to be honest I'm sick of all the crappy sports games year after year.

Yes, yes I will. I've been using Source for some time now, and it's no problem for me to use anymore. In fact, it's getting frustrating using the old engine because I can't do what I want in it.

I hope to move to Source, Unreal Engine 3, Crysis. I've got a L4D2 campaign in planning, based on where I live. Goldsource is just too old now, I'm getting a new rig soon, so I'll be able to map for everything before too long.
And yes, it's a HLDM map, so no singleplayer support (unless you like roaming an empty map) I like DM maps, they are confined and allow for bigger things in a smaller environment rather than trying to stretch over a vast story length.
The palm tree leaves are a little flat. You can use angled brushes to add some volume to them. PM me if you'd like an example.
One of the bases has a side corridor you can't get through as it's too narrow.
Lighting please. Even if the outside ends up just as bright (which would be fine) the tunnels underneath are painful on the eyes.
Strafing seagulls!
Otherwise, you've got a good little map here. Touch it up a bit and it'll be great.
1) Format Hard-Drive
2) Install whatever operating system you want
3) ????
4) Cookies
Of course, but like I said, so long is it is structurally based on the old code, the potential is still there.
"And I am pretty sure no windows would react that way if it were functioning normally."
Windows - Happily dysfunctional and periodically unstable since 1995.

...wtf is wrong with me today?
Yeah, the bugs are funny sometimes
It happens...
I've also uploaded a patch that should add the missing files.
I'll package them up later today and I might do a little info for them on my blog, I'll try and remember what the hell I was thinking when I made them

Yeah, we don't call it lager you brit!
And I agree with Strider. Australians just don't give a fuck, that's how awesome we are

I also didn't want to crowd up the rooms. If you put too much in a room, it might get a bit cramped and distracting.
What I find most interesting is watching others come and go. The really active members moved on, yet we all stayed.
But congrats on reaching 7+ years.
