Time for forward thinking on these contests. Need to start a Halloween themed contest now, then a Christmas themed map right after that.

maybe even just judge based on screen shots to get people practicing portfolio scenes instead of full on maps. Its a lot easier to get 1 angle looking pimp, than to worry about a full on map.

Just my $0.02

in Mist of Stagnation now on Steam Greenlig Post #314163
Hello again guys.

We just got back from RTX in Austin and SGC in Dallas over the last couple of weeks, and we are tired!

It's been a lot of fun showing the game off to thousands of people and hearing feedback from them.

We have a quick gameplay video up now showcasing the FPS part of the game, and will have it replaced with a proper video in the coming weeks.

We are also working on getting the commander system (RTS part of the game) in over the next 30 days, and that's where we will need your help.

Anyways, here is the link for us on Steam's Greenlight system. We would love to have your Yes vote!

You are correct.

For an object to accelerate to the speed of light, it would exponentially have to increase in mass (fuel) to reach that speed, which would increase its needs for more fuel, and so on and so on. That is why with our current understanding of things, to jump to the speed of light is impossible.

However, this does not account for things already traveling at the speed of light. A theory some physicists are exploring is that of tachyonic particles (no, its not just something star trek made up). They are bound to the same rules though, saying they could never go slower than the speed of light, due to energy conservation and having a negative mass.

Keep in mind, this is all theoretical physics, so take it with a grain of salt.

going faster than the speed of light doesn't break e=mc2. It doesn't apply to things already traveling at or faster than the speed of light.

e=mc2 isn't a law either, its a theory.

Using content from other games

Through Steam

You can access any number of games through Steam, even if they don't use Source, by tweaking your gameinfo.txt. This doesn't require extracting anything from a GCF, but you can't guarantee that the user owns the games you've mounted.

Note:If you are thinking of extracting content from a GCF and distributing it yourself, see the next section.

Legally-speaking however, making (for example) a Source mod that features music from Defcon may not be permissible, even though only those who own Defcon could play it. This is because there are two competing rights:
The right for the creator to dictate how their works are distributed
The right of those granted access to works (e.g. by buying them) to mix them together for personal use

There is no legal precedent for the quasi-authorized content mixing that Steam allows.

Anyone who has uploaded a map .bsp with content embedded in it has done the same thing. Distributing materials that you arnt sure if the person using is authorized to use.

Tutorial that covers how to create assets to be used in UDK for a cave. In this tutorial I create the entrance to a cave using 3DS Max and Mudbox, then baking the hi resoultion mesh onto a low poly mesh, then creating the texture to be used on it.

This can be used for UDK, Source, Crytek, Unity, etc.

in Complete bullshit new law passed in US Post #311788
I am an American, but Im sorry to tell you zebra, that the US Constitution was set up by a bunch of treasonists, slave owning, mass murdering men who didn't want to pay taxes. It was set up to protect THEIR rights, not the people 225 years in the future.

The patriot act did the same thing 8 years ago, and back during WWII there was a little something called interment camps.

The only thing new here, is you. Not in a mean way, but now it's your generation that is seeing the truth about big government.

in NextGen Foliage Modeling Tutorial Post #311226
I am thinking about creating a tutorial for the method I used to make the foliage in the current level we are working on.

Here is a short video showing what it looks like:

If this is something you would like to see, just give the video a thumbs up on YouTube.

Currently I plan to show the hi-poly model creation, the low poly model creation, vertex painting, and brining it all together with a custom material in UDK.

Also feel free to leave a comment here or on YouTube about what things you want to see in a tutorial, or any other ideas you might have.

Once it gets to 100 likes, I make the tutorial.

in More News! More Mods? Post #310309
The title just about says it all, but the front page is very unappealing to new visitors. I'll be the 1st to admit, its the tutorials that brought me here, but other sites I visit keep me there with active content.

This is a strong community, but it's not getting very much new blood. Front page news should be relevant to anything Source/GoldSrc, right now it's a news post from April, and a MOTM from July.

If you need more mod's here, I'm sure you can ask some of the regulars and they would be glad to help keep this site fresh. I'm not suggesting any huge changes, keep the current theme; just stay current.

get the better gpu, the i5 is plenty powerful for any games these days. In fact, there are so few games that use multi threaded technology that you will never use the full power of the i7 anyways.

i7 is more of a future proof, or compile machine
