in Do you love Australia Post #223079
Well.. To call an entire continent of people 'intellectually lacking' is quite dumb.. Even though everyone hates America, and its government sucks, I think we've got quite a few good people (and internets). Its the same as Australia in respect that its very multi-cultural. To call Australians stupid as a general term means that your calling its people dumb.. Its people come from various races, and they come from all over the world. If you call the world dumb and intolerant, then that must mean that its your approach towards the world. Its not them being mean, its you that is being the ass. Most Aussies ive come across are quite nice, and they get angry for good reason. Bah Jimmi.

in Can entity func_rotating have a shadow? Post #222374
This is done by the light entity, and not the object. So, instead of spot_light or just light to light up your rotating object.. choose light_dynamic. It is preeeetty resource consuming, so use it sparingly.

Yeah, there are different skies. You need to go up to the top of the window and hit map>>map properties. From there, click on the skybox texture name field and you type in the name of your sky.

The sky list is here at http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Sky_List

Theres even reccommendations for what your light_environments settings should be, to fit the lighting of the sky. If you wanted the first sky with a picture down the page, you would post in the Skybox Texture Name field "sky_borealis01".. then it will be in your map. Huzzah

1. "models/props_c17/cashregister01a.mdl", which must be used on a dynamic entity (i.e. prop_physics).

-- Make the model in question a prop_dynamic, just dont make it move.. same difference, and your compile log wont whine.

2. type "mat_fullbright 0" into your consol

3. If its still screwed up, go up into hammers menus and go map>>load pointfile.. at that point, a red line should guide you as to where your leak is. (if its not under the map tab, load pointfiles is somewhere up there.. its there, trust me)

in PS3 or Wii?? Post #210084
TP is rather good, yeaah... But NEVER get a PS3.. It has absolutely no good games, and the one it had coming out for it (assasins creed), was boughten over by microsoft (360, woo)... And, I found them to look rather stupid up close. It looks as if a giant hunk of overelaborate plastic thats too shiny to be true. If you are hoping for a new style of playing, dont count on it, the control is exactly the same as both of the other playstation consols, but with a motion sensor (stolen from the wii, and put to poor use).. The PS3's (so far..) are completely inferior to the 360's in terms of looks and gameplay (ive left the wii out because its based completely on gameplay).. The PS3's graphics are sharper than the 360's, but the lighting on it simply sucks in comparison...

im done :thefinger:

mmmm, you might have moved the texture to a folder that its not supposed to be in.. In which case, (this will basically render any custom textures useless, for the moment), go rename your materials folder (materials2..) and then it will let the GCF's textures come through.. If the GCF textures dont work, then theres something else wrong.. (Note you have to restart hammer and compile to let the GCF textures to come through)

in Water textures not showing up in hammer! Post #209871
The reason is because its dev water.. Dev water does not show up in hammer, but it renders reflections actively when its in the game. Alot more "expensive" than regular water.. So, use any water that doesn't have dev in its name if you want to see it in hammer. I reccomend water_canals03 =D

I would image it would be textured the same way, it would just be broken up into the particles upon compile.. This would be an overall bad thing for games, because im sure developers dont want to continue a map out forever.. Or you could break out to the void (considering there is one) =/

You do realize that by doing that the result would would actually increase the total file size of the sound by having 2 wavs instead of one, making it even worse than having one long sound.
To me, the periods and the "You do realise" thing just comes off as bashing him. I know noone brought up grammar, I did. I was not meaning it to be a grammar war, because afterall, its the internet.. I can mess up whatever I wish. Its not for a grade. Your general sentence structure just ran off a crap tone. You could say something like "Nah, that would make two files and I dont want to run the sizes up" rather than saying specifics and proving him wrong. You know what will work and wont for your purposes. They arent making it afterall, therefore they wont care as to why it wont suit your needs. After saying it just wont work, one can just assume that you still need ideas.

well, he said its just to not get through glass, so this brings up questions I guess... Does it only block bullets when you shoot where the actual texture is placed, or will it block it if it hits something else, but the bullet "would" pass through it. In which case (on the second one), he could make the glass texture, and then put the block bullets as a smaller brush that occupies the same expanse as the window, but just thinner. Then it would still give the glass decal, but not go through it.

in Religion Discussion Post #203098
Evolution is also prevalent in smaller ways among humans, how people change in order to better suit their environment. Thats why native northern people are generally shorter, in order to allow a better circulation of heat. Darwin had seen an insect that had to stretch into a flower to get its nectar, and predicted that after time it would have an elongated mouth to take from it better. Such an insect exists now =/.. These small little changes over time change a species into another species.. This happens diversly for species because they are not all accessible to eachother to breed and grow at the same pace as the others. They then change away from their original form to suit their current environment. That is why the galapagos islands have species unique to anywhere else, because it is so secluded. This will no longer happen for humans in general because of our advancements in transportation, in where we can secks anyone from anywhere we want..

The creation of the universe is said to be by god. But, if that happened, what created god, and then what created who created god. It trails off endlessly.. Religion in general just claims their gods/god have always been there, and just is there. I just think, whatever created the universe humans cannot comprehend, and im perfectly fine with that. I just know im here to enjoy myself for now, and thats all I need.

People argue that there is a soul, and that it HAS to go somewhere.. You and your state of being is held biologically in your brain. When you die, your remains are decomposed and circulated for other life to reap the benifits. This includes your brain.. When you are dead, you dont care anymore, as you no longer have a state of existance of any kind. Heaven and Hell (religion.) might have been created to keep people in check. I believe in religious values, but not the crappy storys they use to tie it together.

in wont ungroup help! Post #203095
mmmm, Also, when you tie more than two brushes together they are both accounted and selected when you click on it. The entity can't be ungrouped untill you right click the entity and click on "move to world", in which will change the entity into a brush again. If you want to be able to move the bruses around, you have to set the func_details to different groups of entitys. Divide that into SEVERAL func_details. I would reccomend though that you dont func_detail an entire building, that makes the compiling ignore lighting the building. It will be litten, yes, but not with the same vigor a regular building would do.

That is true, but others would know better. There would need to be little "qualifications" that describe what each of those levels are, and then there should be the admin option to disable/force a certain level upon someone.

hmmm, a twhl "team" option would be cool... As in, if you decide to make a little modding team, it would outline what the mod is, who is in it, and who does what. It could also have have little bulletin things set by the creator that only members of it can see. To prevent spam over it, there should be a form type thing that tells what it is, and if a moderator decides it worthy, it makes it onto the team list. It could also be used to organize little mini competitions as well.. Basically, this would be like a clan system that can be used for little constructive purposes. It would help these kind of things out because:

1. You dont have to look through an insaaanely long thread to understand whats going on.
2. It would help these teams stick together a bit.
3. It would be unique from other mapping sites.

I understand thats what moddb is for, but this would feel alot more "at home" than that. If it gets far enough, then I guess it could move on to moddb, but untill then, this wouldn't bring on such a world of criticism.
